Question What is this item on my carb(PIC)?

Not sure what circled item is.
My 83 carb has this but the 82 carb I want to replace it with does not. What is it and do I need it for the 83 engine to run properly? Should I just plug off the hose that leads to it ?

I'm not sure myself. I'm fairly new to this whole deal though. I'm sure Sterling or rx7carl will let both of us know soon enough though.

Sorry I can't help ya on this one.

It's part of the aux air bleed system.

If the '82 carb doesn't have one, it's from an automatic car. It's no real biggie.

But the 82 carb is from my old 82 engine that was in my current car that is a manuel. Unless someone swapped in an auto engine in my 82 before I bought it.
An auto vs manuel carb, is there any difference and are they 100% interchangeable? I am just trying to get this 82 carb to work on my 83 but have noticed that there are a few things on one and not the other. Any input would really be appreciated.

Eh, bolt in on and hook everything up that you recognize and block off the rest and see how it runs.

Yeah I think I'll do just that tomorrow and see how it goes.

It an altitude compensation valve. Basically it adjusts your idle according to air pressure. There's a diaphragm inside with a spring. As you drive thru different elevations, the pressure acts on the diaphragm, opening or closing slightly a valve that will let more or less air to be bled from the idle circuit.
Take it apart and look inside. It's what I did!

Cap off the holes and retune. The only thing is if you decide to drive into the Rockies, you'll have to retune your idle mixture, that's all.

Thanks again for your help sterling, what about this circled pic? On my 83 carb there is nothing there like the pic, like it is blanked off. But on the 82 carb there is something screwed into it with a wire coming out of it.
Again what is this?

That hole is threaded on earlier carbs for a solenoid valve that opens the richer jet for decelleration on manual tranny carbs. (I think.)
It's a non functioning circuit IF the holes in the top and that one are not threaded. Don't worry about the connector that used to hook up to that. The ECU is just sending a signal to that wire under cirtain circumstances...I believe when the rpms are dropping and other solenoids are reading the carb as running a certain way.

Remember, this whole system is alot like the first on-off binary computer, only with vacuum solenoids! The unfortunate thing is that almost everything was dependant on something else working correctly.

Hey, normally, every time I'm wrong, I keep my mouth shut and learn instead of posting.

So, this 82 carb should work out just fine. If it stops raining here I am going to give it a shot and let you guys know what happens.

Yeah - if you have gutted the nest, it makes it really easy to swap carbs from different years. If you don't have something to connect to it, you can just cap it
