Unhappy What happened??

I don't know much about cars to begin with.. let alone a rotary engine.. but I got a 1984 GS about 2 months ago. It runs great.. smoothe.. great car.

But when I start it (If it starts) the idle is so low, that it immediatly stalls.
So, I must keep my foot on the gas; if I let it idle at all, the RPM's dive and it stalls. Plus, there is the squaky sound coming from under the hood.. Kind of like there is a belt loose.
But after i get it to about 25MPH, it stops, and Idles at 1,000RPM's
Before all this started to happen,It used to idle at 800.. exactly at 800.. but now it's 1,000.. After the squaky sound stops, the idle is fine (besides being slightly high)
What happened?
Once again, I know little to nothing about cars, let alone rotary's.
Thanks for your help!

oh.. one more thing. Does everyone's RX-7 have a blender-like sound coming from the engine, and a reallly deep(and loud) grumble from the exaust?
everything is stock.. and people say it sounds like a garbage truck
If this is normal.. I can't wait until i get some nice parts in there

Hold on Adam . We can get you through this.
First the easy stuff. Yes to be honest the rotary engine doesn't have the toughest sound in the work. God knows that I get enough ribbing at work about the noise it makes.
Ok do you use the choke when you start it. You should just be able to pull it out it will go back in on its own.
The noise that you hear is probably one of the accesories. These are not ment to run slow. You are in California so you probably have the air pump still installed so check that your pelts are tight.
I'm not sure what could be causing the change in idle but work on checking to see if the choke is working first.
These are simple beasts so don't sweet it to much.
