You have 2 basic options, plumb what you have with a carb pump, a surge tank and an FI pump, or mod the tank to accept a 2nd gen TII intank pump along with the sump cup from a 2nd gen tank.

I would go with the modified tank (with the 2nd gen sump cup) and the in tank walbro. Scott and Sam modified my tank for me, and I am going to be running dual walbro 255lph pumps in tank.

Personally I really enjoy a simple setup (single fuel pump), that way you could diagnose it easier in the long run if you have any troubles. This setup is going to be a bit more money, but it is very simple and functions well after the initial investment.

is there any welding that is needed in these mods to the gas tanks, i really really dont like welding on gas tanks. i have seen frist person a gas tank blow up that was filled with sand.

I think most of us weld it, but you can do it without welding like renns did in this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/efi-prepping-1st-gen-577867/
Either way will work. It's a nice setup when its all done, quiet as hell and you have all the same available options as FC owners as far as aftermarket pumps etc.

Sand is bad. By adding sand you have made it into a mini claymore bomb. There are 3 options for welding on gas tanks

1)Fill with water. and i meen FILL. There cant be any air pockets, which sand still has.

2)Use exaust from a running vehicle pumped into the gas tank. No O2 no boooom.

3)And Last and my favoret. Most people freak out when i show them this, and they usually go running for the hills. Ready? .....Follow step 1 only this time use the gasoline as a filler instead of water. Yes thats right i said GAS. Gasoline as a liquid wont ignite untill extreamly high temp. Its the Gas vapors that ignite not the Liquid, which is why it is so important to FILL the tank up all the way to the cap, otherwise

BY the way this applys to all types of automotive fuel types, besides propane.

How about a fuel cell in the back? Thats what im going to be running once I do the T2 swap.....going to re-do all the fuel lines, put a cell in the back and probably use an aeromotive in-line fuel pump.
