What do you guys think?

I have been thinking about some things and am getting to a point where I'll need to make a decision. I have an 83' LE and a 85' GS SCCA IT car. Neither car is driveable right now. The LE needs a new trans, clutch, exhuast and has very bad rust in the inner wheel wells. The racecar list of crap is to long to type out lol. Anyways I don't know what to do with the LE I havn't gotten to look at it, as I work everyday of practicly every weekend. And my racecar is using my jackstands because it's suspension is taken apart. I'm afraid that the rust on the LE may be to the point of no return. As in the mounts for the suspension may be rusted. If that's the case it would require lots of time and work to weld in new metal, and make new mounts that were in the right spots to keep the car the same as it is now. So I'm starting to wonder what to do. I found the rust after I bought the car and there was nothing I could do. It was my old bosses car and I took his word on it that it was clean. Because he had the car apart when he had it. So if I can't fix this I'm afraid I'm gonna have to throw a car away that I paid $2k for... and when your 16 2k is alot of money. So I'm thinking about giving up on both cars and selling them and all the tons of parts I have for them... What do you guys think, I don't really want to get rid of them, but it's getting hard I don't make much money. And I keep putting so much into them, but it never seems to be enough to get them going. I guess I need some motivation to keep going on them. Before I give up and sell...

Being that this is my first post, I probably should introduce myself...I just obtained an 80 RX7 that needs some serious work 8 days ago, but like you, I am pressed for time and cash to really jump in and take care of it the way I would like too.

Don't despair, and don't make a quick decision regarding your cars. As you have now discovered, any older car is going to take considerable time and money to keep going, irregardless of what kind of car it is. To be perfectly honest, so are newer cars...I just sunk another $450 in suspension and a new intake for my 2000 Tiburon to keep it going the way I want it too. Cars will be the biggest investment and loss of money anyone will ever make, as they depreciate so much faster than any other major purchase/asset, and you have to spend so much money and time to keep them going.

I guess the best thing to do is decide what you want - either one or both of the cars, or not at all...It can be frustrating just looking one or both just sitting there wanting to get them going to drive, all the while loving the particular vehicle. On the flip side, maybe cutting your losses now and moving on could be the better option - only you can really decide that. It sounds like for 16 years old (I'll be twice that age in November - damn I feel old now) you know what you are doing and have some idea of what you would like to do with them. Just take your time and decide what's best for you, and get some other opinions too.

LOL at Rotary7's if I do end up selling I'll let all you guys know. (have enough stuff that I don't even know all what I have anymore.) Anyways I think 80GreyGhost got it right with it being frustrating seeing them sit there all the time. I guess I'll just wait it out and keep working at them. The reason it's tempting to sell is I'm working at a BMW and Porsche repair/tuning shop and there are alot of non-rx7 toys that come in lol. So it's becoming tempting to stray from the RX7 heh.
