I've read quite a bit about the wolf3d... it's a pretty solid looking little ECU. It comes with a handheld controller for easy tuning, it's pretty straightforward to install, and it's quite versatile. It's prolly not as full featured as some of the other units out there, but it is "rotary aware" and will probably work 100% for what you'll need. I plan on using one in my TII swap...eventually

I think a few of the guys on the forum w/ TII swaps have them.

that guy has a wolf-3d as the brain for his turbo gsl-se motor.

pretty sweet if you ask me.

I think that you mean the Motec. It's one of the leading EMS units, is made with fantastic quality and has lots of functions, although I don't see any reason to use it in a 1Gen unless you are a professional racer. The Haltech E6K, on the other hand, is a mid-grade unit, much like the Wolf3D or Electromotive units, and would be a better choice for most street-driven NA 1Gens.

IMO, the Wolf3D is a lot easier to get working than the other EMS units, but you guys need to understand that the average Joe mechanic isn't capable of installing any current EMS with ease. I'm not going to mention any names, but I know of some rotary gurus who ordered an EMS (two different brands, which I will also not mention), and had them sit on the shelf collecting dust because they couldn't figure out how to install them. I know of one racer who tried one brand of EMS, couldn't get it to work (his fault), swapped it for another brand of EMS which he also couldn't get to work (his fault once again), and ended up paying a professional tuner $3,000 to get it running. I know of another racer (great businessman, lousy mechanic) who was the distributor for a certain EMS unit until he blew up a customer's engine with a bad fuel map, and now he sells a different brand of EMS (Geez, I hope he doesn't try tuning anybody's car again). I don't mean to scare you guys here, but I just want you to know that an aftermarket EMS isn't one of those EZ bolt-on mods like a set of wheels or a Racing Beat exhaust.

On the good side, once the EMS is installed, you don't have to mess with it again unless you modify your engine. One of my friends (13 years experience with RX-7's) has installed the Wolf3D in two NA RX-7's with fantastic results. Another friend of mine was so impressed that he got a Wolf3D for his 1Gen. I will also use a Wolf3D in my 20B 2Gen. Yes, there are lots of other decent EMS units on the market, but I like the features of the Wolf, and I can get a lot of support from my friends and other people in my area, which is the most important consideration when choosing an EMS.

In my area, the Wolf3D 3.0 retails for about $1,200 USD, and that price includes the hand controller, one memory cartridge, wiring harness, and all the required sensors. Here is a link to the web site, and you can download the manual.

You can also download the software here, and it actually works in Win95+, unlike the demo software from the "other" brands.

I'm thinking of getting a Wolf, but it won't be till early next year. Check out this link from the ECU forum:

Get the Haltech E6K.

It provides far greater tuning capabilities and greater adjustment than the Wolf 3D and any other ECU that doesn't have Mootec or Autronic on the box...

Just my thoughts....

couple of my friends are running TII setups with Haltech.
One of them is running a T04 with front-mount intercooler and 1/4 miles of 12's,
Haltech is the best thing that has happened to a Turbo Engine, Wolf3D sucks.

Hehehe, well I'm sure that the folks at Haltech admire your loyalty, but the rest of the world considers the Motec units to be superior to those from Haltech. I don't mean to rag on Haltech, as the Motec units are about twice as expensive, and have many features that are not worth the trouble or expense for the "little guys".

BTW, when is "the best thing that has happened to a Turbo Engine" going to add inputs for exhaust backpressure, turbo speed, and vehicle speed like the Autronic SM2?
