What to do to fight wind noise?
My car has a pretty bad wind noise problem above 50mph or so. Is this a pretty common first gen problem? My window weatherstripping is pretty bad so I want to replace that...anyone know where to buy it? Rockauto has the door strip(I also need to replace this), but nothing for inner window itself. What are some other ways to alleviate wind noise?

i replaced the inner and outer seals, the window run channel seal, and the hatch seal on my 85 GS(SE) with oem mazda parts. the wind noise has signifigantly diminished but its not perfect. i highly reccomend oem parts and have the part numbers available. i can also provide pics. their fitment is perfect and the quality is outstanding. often times a shrunken sunroof seal can cause the wind leak as well as the acrylic roof panel is kow for leain leaky due to age and to slight bowing...i own one...i know all about that nightmare.

Star your in fine company here! But at least we mean well!
As Dave says, ALL new seals will go a long way to quietening down the noise - and all are available from the dealer, tho it will put a dent in your wallet. Seals are identical for all years of first-gens. Might be worth checking with someone like Mazdatrix to compare prices with your dealer (tho you have to calculate in the shipping cost). Door panels need to come off to ease installation, so you'll want some 4mil plastic sheeting available since you'll likely damage the present water shield (also just a cut sheet of plastic) removing it once the panel is off.
I took the extra step of cleaning, waxing and finally POR15-ing the bottom seal inside the door where moisture collects and can start rust in there. see pic.
I also bought a Door Sound Insulation Kit from www.secondskinaudio.com (their single door kit will do TWO RX7 doors) for some extra sound proofing. And, yeah, I WAXED the whole inside of the door too - AND re-lubed the winder mechanism.
Also: you WILL need the rubber "cap, fastener" that the door panel clips pop into in the metal panel! yours will likely disintegrate as you pull the panel. PN is 0187-58-922. You need 22 of them. These are the black small "circles" around the perimeter of the doors in the photos.

I just replaced mine with Black Dragon units. They seem to be very good quality and even stay true to the yellow tab on left, white tab on right that was on my OEM seals. No more noise or rain leakage. I think they were around $45 each. Due to the new rubber and light weight stripped doors, they close a little harder. Leaving the doors closed for a couple nights helped them seat better. I also glued the top in using automotive black trim glue. Not necessary, but I did not like the fact that only the bottom is designed with clips as the top has a lip all the way around that the rubber pops in.

Part numbers would be great. I'd love OEM if I could get my hands on it. My driver side window seal developed this strange 'problem' sometime before I got the car. I guess it got bunched up somehow and if you compress rubber enough, for long enough, it will permanently change shape. So I have this very strange, cancerous-looking growth thing on my window seal which prevents the window from rolling up smoothly. So I try to pull it up, and ended up pulling way more window seal than i had planned, so now I have a stretched out window seal which makes closing the door itself a pain. I am an idiot, by the way.
door seals are 8871-58-760 (r) and 8871-59-760 (L)
also the seal where the door meets the window is a good one to get too, 8871-58-781 x2
when i worked at big dealer ships we used to stock the glass runs...

Ok I ordered the window channel from Mazdatrix. Anyone know of a writeup about how to install it? Awaiting more info on the door seal.
Also I'm only doing the driver side. The passenger side looks like it has at least 10 years left before I need to replace it.

FINALLY got the window channel installed. For whatever ******* reason it took one ******* month to ship. Window operation is sooo much better and wind noise is noticeably lessened. Door seals next.

i knwo mercedes, bmw and a few other euro cars have seals that cover all gaps on chasis to keep wind from going in the nooks and crannys of the car....its also good for high speeds...i would like to do this the only problem is how?

got my door seals from them. i see they went up /$20 since i got mine. didn't fit over the window frame like the original.(part that fits into the channel of the frame) it's just not made the same. recently bought some from blackdragon.com. they r definitely made better and WILL fit in the channel around the window frame like it's suppose to.

wouldn't know. when i ordered and got mine several months ago they were $49.99 per side which was the very reason i bought from them. once i got ready to install them, i noticed after pulling the old originals off that the new ones weren't molded the same in the area that went around the window frame. i also had to cut and trim the areas of the seal that contacted the body opening cause they would catch in certain areas, almost like the doors were bad out of alignment. but the gap around the doors were fine. i plan to start a thread and get pix of the two once i make time to install the new ones.
