What is considered high milage?
I just bought a 81 RX7 with 147000 iles. I have a 87Toyota pickup with a 108000 miles and friends tell me the pickup has low miles and If It is taken care of (oil change etc) that it should get 300000 miles with no problems. What about rotary engines? What is considered high milage and if taken care of what kind of total miles would be an average before complete overhaul?

Someone just posted how their wife sold her first gen rx7 with 480,000 miles on it. You keep up the maintanence on it, and it will last you an extremely long time. You also have to be rev happy with it, give it a proper warm up and a proper cool down.
What is a high mileage car to me? Depends on age. 105,000 miles on a '04 is high mileage; whereas, 105,000 miles on an '81 is low mileage. 147,000 miles seems to be right about average for first gens I'd say. Both mine came with 113,000 miles. Give or take a couple hundred on both. I put 20,000 miles on both, my first one developed an oil leak in between housing and irons. My '84 is still starting up everytime I hop into it without any problems to speak of.
And change oil every 2,500 miles.

Yep. The rotary engine is the most reliable engine. Do everything said above. It's very important to get the rotary warmed up and cooled down. Post some pics of your rex when you can. Welcome to the forum and God bless

Unless you know the history of the engine, you have no idea what the previous owners drove it like, how often they changed oil, or anything of that nature. Because of this you have to assume that it is reaching the end of its life; however, on the same note, it could have another 100,000 miles left in it if you treat it right and properly keep oil in it, don't overheat it, let it warm up, cool down, and all that stuff.
There are a lot of 12A's out there with loads of miles on them. Just keep them taken care of.

I do believe this one has been taken care of. It was driven by a 45 year old who bought it new and her dad was the plant manager for the GM plant here. I bet her dad got some ribbing. It has been sitting up for 2 years as she passed away and the estate appraiser bought it and I bought it from him. He was a friend of the family and a good friend of mine. It went thru a hail storm so After I get it running right and suspension right I will be looking at doing that. Will post pics later.

300k isn't uncommon for 12A's. As said above, care is needed. Usually a good redline once a week is good to clear carbon build up in the housings. Pics are a must and welcome

I got mine with almost exactly 147000mi on it. It now has 163400 in 10 months later
It had a slight oil leak, and loose steeering. It still does.
Right after I got it, I was powersliding around some corners, showing my friend how much *** these cars kick! When the heater hose blew! Later the clutch went out on the freeway. This was when it was bone stock, and Id run it right to 7000rpms all the time.
These are the only repairs Ive made to the car, plus a new radiator. It feels to me like Ill get at least 250, 000 out of it, and I run it to redline (sometimes a little over) quite frequently, infact a few times almost everyday heheh.
Notice how these are all things other than the engine
It depends on conditions also, if your always in gridlock traffic, stuff will wear out faster, but I dont think theres anything better for a car than open highway
My friends brother, had a new street ported engine and blew it up in 35,000 miles. Knowing him, he buried the needle at every shift
If you take religious care of it, with proper maintnence, Id be willing to bet youd see well over 300,000
Good luck with it and welcome!
Too bad these havent been around for 40+years (although the idea has) so we could compare them to the immortal slant 6's hahaha
