What color brake calipers on my car:



I'm thinking straight up true blue, and also painting the inside of the side mirrors the same paint color.

Or should i do silver?

No yellow makes em go slower. Had them on my GS for a while. They are red now. red is better.

Now stop makin fuN!!!! I'm serious guys, maybe YOU like the stock "rusted ****" look, but i like my cars to look nice all around, in every aspect possible.

I'm thinking silver to go w/ more of a "stock" look.

Yeah...Silver would look sweet . When I used to build plastic models I had some "alluminum" colored paint I really liked...

hey ... what's wrong with the stock rusted ****???

i painted mine red, when i had the SE suspension on my last car. however, seeing that so many people do it and try to copy Porsche, i'm glad i no longer have those.

why not just clean and polish them, and have them clearcoated? you know ... au naturale ...

I think a lot of people go red for a reason... It looks good!

Although I must say, I like the idea of simply polishing them and clearcoating. That would look quite nice to.

just don't paint the rotor hubs or rear parking brake drums - the paint traps in heat that should be left to vent under hard braking

i noticed you failed to mention how dumb it looks as well ...
painted drums???? you ALL have my permission to beat the tar outta me if i do that before i swap my rear ...

Would it be silver if polished up? How would i go about cleaning and polishing? I have a brake rotor/caliper cleaner, i was going to take some other heavy duty cleaners and some serious elbow grease to them. And also, what type of clearcoat should i get??

Something heat resistand obviously!!!

I want it to look nice, not rice, ya know? Silver would be best (BMW style baby!)

Once I got the Enkei rims many people commented on the band of rust around my brake hubs, suggesting I get 'em painted a nice red or something. I just smiled and nodded politely.

After I got my car road worthy again, I was just gonna get all new calipers all around... Unless soneone has a suggestion on how to get the caked on brake dust and corrosion off of them. I'm a bit nervous about using Varsol on the calipers...

Yeah, in theory brake cleaner works. But when I had to clean mine that **** wouldn't come off for anything. Of course, I also bought the SE calipers from some two-bit mechanic who picked em up off his dirt floor (literally dirt). But I round that hitting them with a nice wire brush on a drill takes care of the problems. Then a little light sanding, tape off the important stuff, and starting spraying.

(Might as well rebuild the fronts while you're at it, they're easy and cheap. The rears are a bitch, though)

Forgot to mention, brake fluid is also a great way to get old paint off calipers since it can't really hurt anything and is quite detrimental to paint. Just be sure it doesn't get on the pads or rotors.

How easy is it to take off the calipers, or should i do it on the car?

Also, how did your brakes turn out, redwood? Silvery?

Definitely take them off the car. I've seen it done on the car and it tends to look good from far away, but bad up close. Better to just take your time and do it right. Besides, I think it looks cool with everything a color and then the black pads in there.

I did red so they weren't too silvery . Although, after cleaning them they were a nice shiny silver. I kinda wish I had just clear coated them then since I don't like my car being flashy, but whatever, maybe next time.

I like the idea of bead blasting them then clear coating. How ever heres another idea, what about powder coating them??? that doesnt trap any heat.
