I saw a sweet mint 79 with a glass and a solid roof.
I would think it was an option for all models with removable roofs, don't understand why it wasn't standard along with the lsd rear.

They're not bad because they're tinted from the factory so you don't get burned. Well, atleast mine was already tinted.

yeah, I was wondering if they were factory for the sa cars, I have a 80 that has a small dent in the removable metal roof and just wondered how difficult it would be to find a clear one glass or lexan.

They are available.

My parents gave me one for my birthday last year, but it is for my '84 GSL.

As far as their availability for SAs I don't know that.

And I belaeave the term the poster is looking for is "moon roof" or "glass sun roof"

clear roof!! WTF!!!

When I bought my '84 new, there was no option for glass sunroofs. They were available from the dealer and aftermarket.

I have a 79 SA, red with a glass sunroof. Its the flip up factory style, not aftermarket.

I have an 84 GSL with a factory tinted glass roof, and an 85 GSLSE with a factory tinted glass roof.

If I have a 79 (first year) and an 85 (last year) they were probably available every year.

the sunroof on the 1st gens are the same size so you can probably just find a moonroof for a 84-85 and then see if you can fit the mount for the latch. I know they're the same size but I don't know if you can use the latch from the 79/80

No compatability between 79 and some 80 models.

They changed the style, mid 1980 model year, from a pop up latch, to the twist up design. Also, the way the roof attached in the front is different. It snaps in, instead of having little prongs that slide into holes.

I retro'd a glass roof into my '80GS. Whole NEW world!! Those black interiors are a bit claustrophobic! I am referring to replacement in RXs with the factory sunroofs. Available all the time on ebay for about $150 or so. Not bad since they were $350+ new. And they are all-glass, so unless some one really works at scratching them, they should look new still. Direct drop in, fitting to all the factory mount points. unless maybe you live in some heat-box like Texas or So.Cal. you will find it very comfy and really open up the interior of the car-
enjoy!

All 3 of mine have glass roofs. I got one for $20 at the junkyard. They are really nice in the SF winters: help warm the car and feels more roomy. I put on the metal roof in really hot weather as a sunshade.
