What are the best springs

I want to know what everybody thinks of the different springs

Also how far do they lower the car.
As I have read:

Racing Beat: 3/4 inch
tokico: 1 inch
Ebaich: 3/4 inch
Suspenion Technique: 1 inch
King: ???

Any others?

I like Eibach, the rears are available with some dead coils that allows you to cut them to your height and not effect the rate. Also, alot of race proven performance.

I'm about to install the Eibach's. I'll report back in a week or so with my "wow factor" report. But I do expect them to be much better than my 17 yr old stock springs. Of course unless everyone tries each of the springs mentioned in this poll then... well... this poll is pretty much kaka.

you left out TMC, by far the cheapest out there.
Rotary Perfomance of Virginia sell them for less than $150 a set. I have heard of several datsun owners who have TMC but no 1st gens. They run these springs on the sepc Rx-7 series cars in that area. I think I will try a set out when I get back from my overseas trip.

I was thinking of getting Eibach springs because they have those few dead coils. My 1st Gen sits up higher in the back for some reason and I want it to be level. Shouldn't the car be level?

I was pulling together info on most the spring sets out there and I created a spreadsheet for comparison. This includes brands and what the guys at Mazda Comp suggested as well as a top local autocross racer.

Spring Rate Comparison
Brand Front Rear Ratio a Ratio b
Stock 100 85 118% 85%
Sus Tech 120 80 150% 67%
R Beat 145 110 132% 76%
TMC 155 125 124% 81%
Eibach 171 100 171% 58%
D Turner 225 155 145% 69%
Mazda A 225 160 141% 71%
Mazda B 250 170 147% 68%
S West 285 155 184% 54%
Mazda IT 300 175 171% 58%

Hope it is helpful.

Oh ya, after more research I found out what is THE BEST SPRING RATES. The ones that is right for your applcation. If you are racing in IT on a super smooooooth track you make use #600 fr, and #450 rear on a first gen.

Insurance company turned out to be a third party commercial insurer...now they've contacted the responsible organization and it's their insurance company that will eventually have to shell out the $$$...in the meantime, I've located an '84 GSL body that is straight with a tired engine for $550 that will most likely become the third body that this RP streetport 12A has been transplanted into!! It's moving way too slow, though...

I drove GSL-SE's with the following, Racing beat, TMC, and Suspension Tecniques. The TMC felt and handled the best, but make some noise when going over larger bumps. May be because their the shortest. The Sus Tech handle beter then the stock but not as stiff as the racing beat. I ended up buying the Sus Tech because the car is my daily driver, and I don't race anymore.
I hope this helps.

So, GSLSE, how did you get to try so many springs? Don't tell me you bought them all and keep the ones you wanted.

If people could post pictures of there cars with the springs installed, that would be great. Then we could see the stance and ride hieght.

Springs on GSL-SE

The way I was able to test is two friends of mine have GSL-SEs. One has the TMC and one added the Racing Beat. I went with the Susp. Tec. based on the spring rates I had read. They ended up lowering my car about 3/4" all the way around. I'm happy with my choice and like the way they look. I've attached a pic.

THe stance on your car is great.
I am thinking suspension tech now.

The racingbeat ones sit really high in the back.

Eibachs are progressivly wound springs (get stiffer as they are compressed) are you sure those are dead coils and not the tighter part of the spring

Was wondering that myself, I put some Eibach springs in my car and it sits a little high in the rear. I'd like to know if this can be done or not. Hate to take some out and screw it up if this wasn't the case.

I'm impressed by the look of the suspension technique setup...

Do you have any pics of the TMC springs?
if not does the car sit higher or lower than the Susp. Tech.?

The rear springs are made to be cut, the coils are tight against each other. These coils dont compress. Here is what Ground Control says:
Replacement rear springs
Street rear springs see Eibach Pro-Kit, listed under front springs.

Racing rear springs
All of our rear springs are made exclusively for us, but the most popular by far is made by Eibach as a 175 lbs./in. rear spring. This is a very clever design that allows fine tuning of the rear ride height by trimming (if necessary) any of the five “dead” coils at the upper end of the spring. These five coils are not active when the car is on the ground (hence the term “dead”), so the spring rate is virtually unaffected by the trimming. These five coils do however create preload when the car is jacked up, so we have also solved the problem of loose rear springs when working on the car. 175 lbs./in., 200 lbs./in. $ 119.00/pair
Racing rear springs, 125 lbs./in., 150, 200, 225 $ 109.00/pair

can you cut the front ones also.

Also, are the racing beat springs made by eibach?

I am not sure it RBs are eibach, but I do know you cant cut the fronts. I dont know of anyones springs that can be cut? I went to coil overs, this solves any height problems.
