What’s up with this?
The POS racer is running pretty sweet. But has a strange phenomenon-taking place.
She idles real smooth at about 1000 RPM with the clutch disengaged (i.e. on the floor), except when I select any gear. Shifter in neutral no problems, shove it into first and the idle starts surging. Played around with it and it will replicate the problem if the shifter is put in any gear with the clutch pedal disengaged (1,2,3,4,5, & R).
Why would this happen, just doesn’t make any sense since the clutch is disengaged it not like I’m putting a load on the motor.

Ah I know the article quite well, but it makes no mention (that I’ve found) about nice idle with the clutch to the floor and the transmission in neutral. Bad Idle if you move the shifter into 1,2,3,4,5,& R. while the clutch pedal is still on the floor…… What’s up with this???

that doesnt make any sense??
Unless maybe even with ur clutch all the way to the floor it(the clutch) can still be grabbing just enought to slow ur idle down.
i dunno do thats just an idea i just had

It even does it while underway; you and I were thinking the same. But push the clutch in at 60mph, and the RPM’s dropped down and she surges, bump it into neutral and she smoothes right out.

Clutch switch.
Did you know that there is a switch that is activiated by the clutch pedal? I know that it is there from the wiring diagrams and I encountered mine when I was taking out the wire harness.
I don't know what it is for, but I imagine that it is an emissions related item so that the ECU will know when you have you foot on the clutch. You could UNPLUG it to disable it, and see if your troubles go away. Follow the clutch pedal up and you'll see it. It is a neck strain. Relative to the brake switch on the brake pedal.
But that doesn't solve the problem. I don't know what it is for, nor do I know how it could be causing your problem.
I won't be using the clutch switch when I reinstall the 13B into my Midget. I hope that I can live without it.
There is also a neutral switch, which is also emissions I beleive. But likely not an issue for you from your explaination. Only occurs when you step on the clutch. Maybe it is a combination of the two swithces?
The wire for the neutral switch shares the harness by the oil presure and water temp senors.
Good luck, looks like you have a bunch of us stumped today.

Wild wacky stuff!
