Talking Went to the 1/8 mile last night.

Finally got the car sorted out enough to give it some abuse.

Specs are:

85GS with S3 GSL rearend
Complete suspension rebuild.
Tokico Illuminas
Eibachs
New calipers
Stock pads
Brembo slotted front rotors
Stock rear rotors
Stainless steel brake lines
Dot 5 silicone brake fluid
Rats nest removal
A/C removal
Wire harness has 3 wires left coming from the ECU
Mikuni
Full interior
Stock tires and wheels (not for long)
Headers, glasspack and stock muffler

Best Timeslip of the night:

60 ft-----------2.459
MPH------------67.06
ET--------------10.624

Car shifts better than my 2nd gen and will even chirp third.

Tried out an old set of Hoosier autocross tires (see pic) on a few passes and was slower with those tires.

Let me know what you think.

Mid 10's in a 1/8? Not too bad. Planning on beating on this one? After all the hard work I spent on my FB, know you now why I had to bring the SA out of retirement! I think these things are like crack. Once you have one, you can't have enough! Good job trochoid!

I need to get back to the track on Wed's test and tune night with the wideband and find a laptop so I can dl the afrs on my runs and dialing it in.

Can't beat this little hole in the wall track. 10 bucks and one can make all the runs they want to. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed, I was hoping to beat the FC which did a 10.01, and that was with 3 tiny vacuum leaks and 550 injectors in the secondaries.

Time to gather up 30 bucks for fuel, entrance fees and see what the 1/2 bp can do. The times posted were on a tired engine from a parts car, suspension was done, hadn't started converting it to the wb yet, stock tires, old and hard, lol.

Thanks for the compliment. My friends S4 TII ran 9.3-9.6.

DOT 5 is often used in show cars and ones that sit for extended periods of time, It has a higher boiling point and the internal parts of the brake system shouldn't rust out as much. I'm not convinced it was the right choice. When it does aerate with water, it turns to a purple snot consistency. It's also recommended that the brakes system be bleed every 6 months. It's pricey at 25-30 bucks a qt., lol.

As a do over, I'd go with Motul, or the Ford dealer's hitemp fluid. I've heard very good things about both. I can't really recommend the DOT 5 and won't use it again.

lol.... it's back from the dead. That IS his WB... after suspension, before widebody kit.

Back in '04!

And what's crazy is that the beehive got stripped, powdercoated and made its way into a tutorial in the Archives, then ended up making its way to Canada and into my current engine bay!

Kevin, you should bring your SA up some Wed. night for test and tune and we can make a few runs. If you have a laptop, bring it with you.

I know it was a long time ago, but why was the car slower?

The only conclusion I've come to is that the autocross tires are so much shorter, they acted like a change in gear ratio.

Kevin, if you're refering to the O2 bung, some exhaust shops sell them, as does Innovate where the wideband came from. Iirc, Innovate sells them for 3-5 bucks.

12AKid, a 60' time of 4.418? I hope that's a mistyped, otherwise you were going backwards, lol.

330ft maybe? Still too high for a 330 though. Hey Trochoid, you run it 1/4 mile since this post is like 3 years old? When you ran it, it looks like its set up about like my 83 GL. I dont run 1/8th much, wouldnt that probably bring you to a mid to low 15 in 1/4? maybe 16 flat? Im currently building a nice 12A that I HOPE to see 15 flat 1/4 mile in, but I shall see. Even with such low passes, fb's are still hard to beat in the fun department!!!

Haven't been to the 1/4 mile track. KCIR is the closest one and has too many 'kids'. This 1/8 mile track is a nice laid back little place in the country that has a dirt oval next to it. Believe it or not, that's the car that became the widebody.

I find it quite humorous that this thread is getting more attention now than when I posted it originally. LOL
