water temp sensor ?????'s

Hey could I use a electrical water temp sensor for oil temp? I already have water temps sensors(and a couple extra senders)I am going to label them to tell the difference. Just wanted to know if you guys thought it would work, thank you. I am talking about aftermarket gauges, thanks again.

I'd check the temp ranges on the sensor first. My first concern would be that a water temp sensor may not go high enough to be of much use reading oil temps.

Probably not. The oil temp runs much higher than the coolant and will probably be out of range for oil.

You should just buy the "real" autometer oil temp gauge and a RB adapter block. no need to . If you're going to do it, at least do it right.

I thought that water temp and oil temp were right around the same for the rotary engine 160f-220f and any higher I would shut off the motor. I might get a kill switch preset at a certain temp that would shut off the ignition and fuel pump as well. I cannot find any electrical oil temp gauges, they are all mechanical and I cannot run a mechanical gauge cause it is going in a vw baja and the engine is in the rear. I have oil pressure and two water sensors already plummed in(water "in" and "out" to make sure my cooling system is operating correctly). I have a couple extra water temp sensors with the electric senders. If anyone knows of a gauge that is electrical please let me know unless you guys think this water one will work, thanks again.

Should work just fine.

Autometer uses the same sender for the Oil and for the Water sensors.

Your Water temp should be 180 and your oil temp should be 180.

I just seen the sunpro series(I know cheapie) but thier temp sensors go from 140-300+ and they are both water or oil take your pick. I have found a couple companies that sell them but they are cheap lookin. I will keep searchin, thanks again.

Sunpro doesnt have a sealed cap tube. it means you wont get an accurate reading. get autometer instead.
