FL Water and Oil... What went wrong?

It all started with backfiring.

I was able to change my 600 to a 650 Holley on a 4port 85 13b that was causing nothing but backfiring under 3k RPM. I took it over to Johny RPM in Sandford, FL and he swap the Holley's. Car ran just like it was suppose for 30 miles then backfiring came back, didn't know what was causing it.

Two days later I changed the fuel filter which was cloged with rust from the gas tank that gave me a relief to know where the backfiring origanerated, again car drove like a dream for another 30 miles; backfiring came back....

What was causing it? Dunno....

I checked the oil it was just in between the "L.....|.....F" so I said no problem let me buy some and put some on, opened up the oil cap and BANG water mixed with oil...

What caused it? Any one? I believed (and call me rotor ignorant) that some of those old rusty residue flakes from the gask tank went inside the carb and travel all the way to the engine and broke my seals.

Please skool me:

How can I prevent future damages to it and does anyone knows anyone in South Florida that speciallice on getting my 7 running like it should be, I would even upgraded it to a turbo with a holley.

Thanks

search "lung butter." this is usually the result of removing all the emissions. it's just condensation that builds up in the oil fill tube. there's write up on how to add a pcv valve to eliminate this. also, the rust in the tank really wont make it into the engine thru the carb, jets r just too small. and even if a piece IS small enough to get thru, it's way too small to do any damage. but some flakes could have made it into the carb so a thorough cleaning will be needed. a second filter at the carb wouldn't hurt. i use the clear glass type. good luck.

Thanks Michael, your reply has really helped me understand it more. Now I can relate a white smoke to the moisture in engine.

Now, having a "PCV valve" would that help out with not having any back fired?

I don't know if that will stop the backfire, but something about the "power valve" or something like that in a Holley has to be taken out or modified. I will look it up some more. I ditched that crappy Holley first chance I got.

Iirc, when I tried using a Holley, the power vavle was changed to a 0 or solid one, one that doesn't do anything. Don't ask me why. Didn't care much for them then, even less now.
