Watch out for Domenic C from CT on thepartstrader.com

My wife decided to suprise me for Christmas with Panasports for my 80 (Good Wife!). Domenic had a set listed on thepartstrader.com. We had just got a set of Eibach springs from him with no problems, so my wife trusted him. He described the wheels as being in good condition and rated the tires at 90 to 95%. He also enclosed these two pictures:

She sent him the money on 12-5 thru paypal, but he apparently got sick (acute appendicitis, I think she said)and was unable to ship the wheels until the Friday before Christmas. No big deal there. Problem developed when the wheels arrived on December 27th.

The second picture is actually of the same wheel he originally sent a picture of. Notice how you cannot see the cracks in the picture he sent. Also, there was absolutely no mention of the cracks or the welds that were placed over them. These were billed as GOOD CONDITION! Also, the two wheels with the problems were 15" X 6" instead of 15" X 7" like the other two. The tires were described accurately, and the two good wheels are fine.

He has refused to answer any emails, so this leads us to believe that this was an intentional ripoff on his part. At any rate, BUYER BEWARE.

Also, I need two 15" X 7" Panasports if anyone has two for sale...

We are already working the paypal angle. Don't know if it will do much good, but it is worth a shot.

Felix, you aren't ready to part with your two good wheels yet, are you?

'95 Mark VIII I'm sorry to hear about your purchase. You have a awsome wife for trying to get something like that for you. I hope you get your money back. Those wheels are in horrible condition not to mention the fact that they aren't as strong as they used to be, possiblility of not being safe to drive with. The crack could make it through the welding.

His email is listed at ThePartsTrader but it is just a hotmail account. Strong possibility that it was a here today gone tomorrow kind of deal. Here is a link to one of his ads. Turbo Kit

Like I had said previously, we were able to get some Eibach springs from him with no problems, but the wheels are another story altogether.

My wife is pretty great, but her motives in getting the wheels was also self serving. We both autocross in the SCCA, and the plan is for both of us to run the '80 this year as a CSP car. Previously, she had been running her SVT Contour, and I had ran pretty much anything I could get my hands on. ( It is fun to watch a big silver Lincoln barrelling around cones all tail out and such ) Unfortunately, one of our friends managed to blow his spider gears completely through his Contour's tranny housing, so she is kind of timid about still running the SVT.

At any rate, thanks for the support guys. I will keep you informed how the situation progresses.

Later,
James

Not until I get two more new ones. No telling when that'll be, either. I don't have $370 to get them. I'm working on too many cars at once

You can run anything on the track? I thought it's limited to what's in the book.

I have the 2000 SCCA rulebook.

Actually, the Lincoln is a named F-Stock car. Also, your car doesn't have to be specifically named to compete. There are catch all classes for cars that haven't been raced enough to get classed. H-Stock is a good example of a catch all class. 4 cylinder sedans and mini trucks get lumped into that class, named or not.

I can't wait for next season to be here. I need to whack some cones!!!

So you're sayin I could blaze through there in a Ford F-150 , a minivan , or some kind of clunky old station wagon :p ?

Oh I am DEFENATELY gonna roll that Honda.

Oh yeah.. forgot to ask. Is there a penalty for rolling a car on the track?

The F-150 would work if it was a 2wd model, especially if it had a sport suspension. I believe the Lightning is a classified vehicle. No problems with station wagons either. In most cases, I think they class with their sedan counterparts. ie. The VW Passat Wagon would go in the same class as the Passat Sedan. The Minivan would be a hit or miss situation. If it is lowered, they may let you run it. The people who handle your local region are the ones you need to talk to find out if a certain vehicle would be allowed. In my region, if you have proven yourself a capable driver (ran several events, not done donuts in the track or hit every cone you see, and finish consistently), then you might gain a little more leniency in your vehicle selection. In my case, all the cars I have competed in were classified by name. My deal was that I didn't run the same car all season. All of the cars that I own were ran at least once, and I codrove with friends in their vehicles a couple of times to boot. I was trying to figure out what I want to run full-time. The '80 became the winner. It had the best balance of all that I drove. The only problem with it was that I got classed as CSP due to the Racing Beat header and exhaust. This was my only mod, and the car was not competitive at all in CSP. Honda CRX's walked me pretty bad. For Christmas, I got Koni's, Eibach springs, a GSL parts car (ummmm, Limited Slip!), and the Panasports. This should help buckle the car down a little better, and hopefully, as I get used to cone dodging, I will close the gap on the CRX.

Later,
James

Oh ya, almost forgot... The penalty for rolling a car is that you might be asked to leave!

For everyone readign this thread, USE ESCROW!! I have used it and it protects everyone. So what if you have to pay them 20 bucks or so. You wont lose thousands if its not the right parts or not in the condition specified. You just send the parts back within the inspection time and you get your money back less shipping. I have used both and I can say I trust Escrow much more than Paypal. You might as well pay them cash by paying with paypal.

Another way to pay is COD, using a cashier's check. If the good received arent up to par, cancel the bank check and let him duke it out with ya.

Well, IEscrow would definitely been a better way to do it. Paypal came back today with the conclusion of their case. Basically stated that since it involved the quality or attributes of the merchandise, it didn't concern them and they would not reverse the transaction. If the funds had come off of a credit card, I could at least dispute the transaction that way, but since it came directly from our savings, there is no further recourse.

Domenic has still not returned a single email since the wheels arrived.

Buyer Beware!

We still have never received any communication from Domenic since just before the wheels came in. We have never sent threatening or abusive emails to him, so the zero communications received from him just continues to confirm that he purposely misled us. We have had to contact an attorney.

Interesting! I also bought a set of rear lights for my ’85 SE from this individual and he failed to ship the center peace after showing me the light on a picture. I’ve tried to email him several time and to date have not received a reply from him. Moreover, when he shipped the lights they were packed so badly that they got scratched.

If the business of buying and selling via the internet will ever have a chance to succeed individuals such as this Dominic need to be identified and labeled as pure CROOKS….

BEWARE!!!!

If you also had a bad experience, you should report it as well. Paypal said if they received other complaints, they would discontinue his account. Also, if more than one person ends up turning him in for internet fraud, the more likely to get charges to stick. Feel free to private message me any other info you have and I'll share it with my attorney.
