Visible Small Subwoofer (+ Other Stuff)

So as not to hijack Frox's thread . . .

Subwoofer: I decided to go through with my experiment to mount an 8" Alpine sub in the bin behind the driver's seat (the battery's behind the passenger seat). I used a sealed enclosure made out of 1/8" 6061 aluminum -- mostly because I like making metal things better than wooden / MDF things. I covered it with D-Amplifier Pro sound deadener sheets. I also used Strip Caulk at every metal joint and supplemented the bin structure with extra sheet metal screws. It's powered by a mono Alpine MRV-M500 amp (300W RMS into 4 ohms) mounted on the front face of the driver's side storage bin.

Tweeter/Mids: I removed the jack and bracket, then used a pair of JBL Control LA indoor/outdoor speakers in the rear. They fit amazingly well. I installed a pair of JBL 4"GTO429 coax speakers in the stock locations in front. I made steel close-out rings to seal them around the perimeter and more Strip Caulk to make it as air tight as possible. These are all driven by Alpine MRV-F300 amp (4 X 50W RMS into 8 ohms) mounted on the front face of the passenger side storage bin.

Receiver: A double-DIN Alpine CDE-W265BT.

Impressions: Good overall sound with tight, hard bass. The highs are bright enough that I don't think I'll need dash-mounted tweeters. I can turn it up loud enough that it's uncomfortable without any rattles or distortion.

Nice! What headunit mount did you use? I am closing to upgrading my stereo and need to find a headunit mount for a double din unit.

I used the OEM mounting bracket:
1. Remove OEM components
2. Flatten the locating tabs
3. Drill appropriate holes for the new unit

The trickier part is closing out the gap between the new unit and the OEM surround. I used a flat piece of plastic and cut an opening to fit the new unit.
