Vin Help

How many digits are in the VIN for a 1979 RX-7? The plate on the dash of my car only has 11. I tried to do a vehicle history report and it says that there are supposed to be 17. If this isnt it, where do i find it.

There are no vin history reports available on 80 and earlier cars.

Prior to 1981 the VIN was just a manufacturer serial number which was usually 11 digits for Mazda but could be basically anything. The standardized 17 digit VIN didn't come until 1981.
