vacuum advance on 85

assuming that i have not removed the rats nest, there are two vacuum hoses that feed the two advance units on the dist, the hose that goes to the vacuum unit closest to the engine (not sure whice is trailing/leading) has a small amount of suction thru it from the rats nest tube , the other hose that goes to the advance closest to the battery seems to have no vacuum at all, question is , can i put a T and run them both off one vacuum tube from the nest , and which one should i put it to, the one with some suction or the other,,,not sure if one tube is bad or if thats way it supposed to work,,,,,,,i know i know get rid of the nest...just scared ill do it incorrectley........i keep reading pros and cons of nest removal.....but i am considering it more with all this cold weather starting problems, think i fried the fuel pump relay, had to run a wire from fuse box to pump connector to get pump to work two days ago....now i have this terrible idle stumble and had to raise rpms to 1200 to run...but ill get her back,,,,,,,,laid off and still got time to mess with her,,,,,

There's really not that much to it. Just remove everything except the PCV system and plug any exposed tubes or vacuum nipples on the carb and manifold. You can also get rid of all the extra wires in the wiring harness. The only wires left on mine are the ones to the alternator and the choke sensor. As for the pros and cons of doing this IMO there are no cons.

Right now I can't register the '85 because it will not pass emissions, and the only thing done to it is headers and straight pipe - it still has the rat's nest and air pump. I think if I put a high flow cat in there it'll pass, but that costs a lot of $$$$... anyway if all the control valves and everything were removed you'd also be guaranteed not to pass, and you'd have to put it all back in (probably getting something wrong in the process).

There are cons.
