if you don't have a camera.. how about tellin us the color of the wire and describe what the connector looks like..i'm sure that would help..If I remember correctly there is a connector that hooks up to..nothing ...it's just there..(factory snafu)..give the description of yours, someone should be able to help you..

Pin down the location of this unit better and describe it's size and shape. The only thing that sticks out that far on the driver's side of the engine that I can think of that protrudes that far is the op sending unit. Is this item under the oil filter, near 2" in diameter and looks like a mushroom?

I'll take a guess. If it is not in the oil pan itself, then it might be an aftermarket engine heater. I think SaltySlug had one that he had a thread about a while back. I'll have to look at mine tomorrow, but I think the location you are describing is where the block drain for the coolant is.

Can't tell much from the pics.

ummmmm...i would disregard it...doesnt sound like anything important at all (considering ive never seen anything like what you describe on a first gen)

it MIGHT be an engine heater...but idk how putting this on the intermediate housing stud would help....lol
