Ugh...

So Ive been gone for a bit, took some leave to go home and see the fam for a bit. I left my car for my roommate to drive... figures as soon as I leave the car alone it takes a **** on me. Apparently the fuel pump gave out, not that it was a bad unit but it had a bad power line. He somehow jerry rigged the pump so it works now but Ive got a wire running from under the car, through the drivers side storage bin, up under the carpet and to the fuse panel to where the previous owner had the stereo plugged in. So now my pump works but my stereo doesnt. Looks like I am going to need to get my hands on a FSM or at least a Haynes manual to help me out here with some wiring problems. Oh yeah did I forget to mention that the tach and the fuel level guage arent working now? *sigh* Anyone know of the fuel pump is somehow related electrically to the tach and fuel level? Ive got a new mallory fuel pump coming to me along with a whole exhaust and intake that should be here in a few days. I will dig into this problem at that time. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yeah Ive taken a gander at it before, dont really have time to check it out at work or print out the necessary pages. Was still wondering if anyone else has had issues with their pump/tach/fuel guage before and would have any knowledge about typical problem areas relating to them.

Not sure of your year model, engine etc but you may want to check your trailing ignitor ( on side of distributor) since thats what your symptoms sound like to me.

Thanks for the help guys, I will definetely take a look at that. I was reading the FSM and it says to test the Ignitor using a test light (which I do not have). Also after searching the archive I see that they cost an exhorborant amount of money. So I read the thread about the GM ignitor conversion, which doesnt seem to work as well as a real ignitor would but it gets the job done just to move it down the road (which is not what im looking for) am I just going to have to suck it up and drop 300 something bucks on one of these stupid things or is there another solution? The car runs, but the tach doesnt work, its not sputtering or anything (but the car did used to have that problem when It was pressed hard in the end of 2nd gear and the beginning of third, ill try it out after work) Thanks again

Just pick one up from the parts for sale section here. I saw someone offering up a distributor, cap, rotor and 2 ignitors for 40$. I keep a spare ignitor in my car and can swap it out on the road if needed...
