Unhappy Twitchy Tach...

I searched, but didn't find anything that really fit this description.

I was driving along, and I didn't notice any lack of power, but my tach started twitching. It was jumping around about a 3-500 rpm range. It only happens under heavy load while going up hill. Heavy acceleration does not trigger it. All top end power is still there. I don't know what else might be relevant. My car doesn't seem to be acting abnormally at all except for this.

It did die on me earlier tonight . I thought it was flooded, and maybe it was. I can't really be sure. I pulled the fuel pump fuse, and cranked it for a while, and eventually it started up. So I think flooding is a safe bet there. I originally pulled the wrong fuse. I was reading the diagram wrong and pulled the engine fuse instead. Could this have anything to do with it?

Please, somebody tell me it's no big thing...

no its not a BIG THING. mine does it once and awhile. so did jammers. sure it happens to a few. some times mine will be jumpy from 2 to 5 grand. double check all your wires to your coils. the weirdest one for me was when it was doing it and i would turn the car off, and it would stay runnin. that was from the alternator wires not connected good. just check your wires.

It's most likely the wire on the negative side of your trailing coil. check to make sure it's not corroded. (that's where the tach gets the signal)

Thanks for the the help guys, but I think I figured it out. After further investigation today, I just found that the contact on the trailing plug wire on my rear rotor was completely falling apart. So I guess it's off to the store to buy a new set of plug wires. I'm just glad it was something simple.
