Turn signals & warning,Tach. LINKED?
Hi, what a NIGHTMARE! After 4 days of working on my electrical problem ( no turn signals or warning lights coming on at startand no tach or voltmeter. ) I had fixed the problem. I had the alt. tested it was no good so I replaced it. No luck. Next checked all connections even pulled the cluster out. After many hours I found the Lg ( blue/ green stripe wire coming off the fuss box has bubbled off the coating on the wire. I followed it up in to and its goes up the drivers pillar, take off the pillar and sure enough I pierced the wire with a mounting screw. I fix that and replace the Lg wire also but still no luck and it's late. The next day while looking at the fuss box I find the fuss for the regulator is bad, it was fine when I checked the day before so I replaced and Presto everything works. Now 3 days have gone by and no problems until last night, start it up and back to same problem no tach/ voltmeter, warning lights or turn signals. I check the fuss and it is fine but I still put in a new one. No luck. The Lg wire I replaced is also fine. PPPPPPPLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIX THIS! This is on a 1979 GS. THANKS!

Ok. On the external resistor on the drivers strut tower coming off the coils I noticed one was very hot. So would this mean I have a short? Also if anyone owning a 79 could send me some pics showing the wiring along the drivers side of the engine compartment it would help. Thanks!

i was just going to say reground the entire vehicle
what you do is get some 0 gauge grounding wire from a stereo shop, use that to replace the stock main ground wire, then after you do that get about 10 feet of 10 gauge wire, and a bunch of crimp on eyelettes, then you run a wire from the main grounding location on the drivers side strut tower, then run that to a top bolt on the trannt where it bolts to the motor, then from there run another wire to a bolt on the intake manifold, then from there run a wire to the tension bolt on the alternator bracket, it will make a world of difference as far as grounding is concerned, also you might want to look into some relays for some of the stock accessories, to get a little load off the main electrical system
good luck!
