Talking turbo or supercharger

i was told to ask some of you guys about a turbo or supercharger. i have a '87 rx-7 w/ a 13b motor that was converted to carburated. i want to do a turbo, but i dont know if its possible or i'd want to do a super charger w/out a huge blower popping out of my hood! any help would be great!!!
Thanks in advance
Tom
p.s. i just bought the car and i;m still waiting for a complete list of mods. all i know is that its ported has complete exhaust system and has direct oil injection to the rotors. i had it dynoed at 248 rwhp.

You can use a SC with a Carb. I dunno if they sell a Turbo wich you can use with a Carb. Atkins has a SC(carb) kit for about 2500$.

Aitkins have there own website. SC is not very common on Gen 1s.

As for turbo charging there are many threads on this. A search for 12at will give you great information.

However, from the 248rwhp Dyno reading you have a well modified Gen 2 which was changed from Fuel Injection to Carb for race purposes. It would be putting out some 275hp at the flywheel. Adding a turbo or SC might be putting somewhat of a strain on the engine and tranny. So what are trying to achieve?

The Atkins site is www.atkinsrotary.com

Neither system will require a hood alteration. With the turbo it is best to have a front mounted intercooler and this will avoid needing a TurboII type hood opening.

When you call, ask them what mods will be necessary to the front housing bearings to compensate from the additional loading the SC belt will put on the crank pulley. If they say that's not a problem, it's time to go hhhhmmmm!

$2500 for a complete bolt on kit is cheap!

Remember the Mazda Rip Off Rule of Thumb :

Take what you think it will cost and multiply by 10, if you want horsepower triple it again

...So let us all be educated further, as we find a few of these many instances where the bearing have failed on supercharged Mazda rotaries. Perhaps we can chat with the owners of such engines?

"...hhhmmmm."
