Turbo SE motor or TII swap?
I've been tossing around the idea of doing a turbo engine for my car. It seems the safer option would be to just get a whole TII engine and swap it in, although it seems like it would be more expensive.
If my power goals are only 200-230whp would it be better just to turbo my 6 port 13b rather than spend all that money on a TII engine if I'm not going to modify it very much? Also would a MAF conversion be a good idea if I DID turbo the SE engine?
Also, if I'm not dragstrip launching the car, will the stock trans and rear end hold up ok?
Just looking for some general advice.

The stock rear and trans should be fine as long as you dont "shock" the driveline with hard launches and/or power shifting.
Beware - Boost & Power is addicting, and when you want more power (which you probably will) - then you'll have to start all over again with a properly built TII or newer engine and all the supporting mods that go along with it.
You should always build your car based on your HP Goals. You don't want to overbuild it ($$ Expensive), and you don't want to put together a cheap time-bomb either.

you should build your se motor with ported 12a irons ....thats what i have and im happy with the power levels .
and the tranny and rear end will hold up fine with the power if you run the 4.10
i have a 6 puck act clutch and i launch it all the time really hard on the track and street and have not had any problems so far .......just jinxed myself ...lol
but im only running 195s so that might be saving my tyranny and rear end

Personally I'd go for the T2 swap, basically for the reason that other than getting it swapped into the car and running you don't have to re-engineer the whole thing. The amount of power you want is easily done with a few simple bolt on mods on a T2 engine, and there is plenty of info and aftermarket support for FC's to make finding parts and info easy. Doing a turbo SE engine would be alot of custom building and piecing together of parts from here and there. I'm not saying it wouldn't work as a lot of people on here have done it successfully, just personally I found it easier to just get something that works and swap it in.

I'd like to keep the original engine intact if at all possible. Who knows what SE's might be worth in the future.
From what I've seen a TII swap is a pretty serious undertaking. Is there any way i can run the car on its stock ECU? Basically, is it possible just to put the engine in the car with no other mods? I know the exhaust would have to be redone, and the wiring harness/ignition system. I think I remember reading that a 12a front cover is necessary to mount it on the stock engine mounts, but can I do it that simply? What else has to be accounted for as a NECESSITY.
I've read plenty of TII swap threads, and it always seems like more work than should be necessary.
I tell myself that if I can just get the engine mounted properly into the car, I will be able to work through the rest and it won't seem like such a huge undertaking.

just do the tII swap and get it over with , i just started my project earlier this week(SE engine came out today).

I'm building a blowthru carb'd turbo setup right now on my 6 port SE motor. Motor has a previous rebuild on it, no porting work done. Going to use an MSD fuel pump and mallory 4309 FPR. HKS cast iron turbo exhaust manifold, hybrid t3/t4 turbo, etc. Only planning to boost at approx 8psi, should make great power. On the other hand, I'm picking up a blown J-Spec S5 TII core that I'm going to start rebuilding and power to have ready in case this blows

You will not be able to run the SE computer and fuel injection boosted properly. The map, mass air flow, or computer will not read the the boost. If you wanted to keep the 6 port SE block, pull the 5/6 port sleeves, get a side draft upper, Weber 45 (boost prepped), locked dizzy, rising rate fuel pressure regulator, front mount intercooler, intercooler pipes, BOV, boost gauge, wide band, drill and tap the front cover for turbo oil return, oil pedistal adapter for turbo oil supply, better clutch, bigger *****, so on, and so forth.
Basically, to turbo the 6 port properly will about cost you as much as doing a TII swap. You can use your SE front cover on the TII block BTW. I have had a 12A turbo running 15psi on a stockport engine. She was putting about 250 at the rear wheels. Crazy fast. Then the addiction got worse. Had to build a streetport TII with a HTO4E. Haven't dynoed the new setup, but should be around 350 RWHP at 15 psi.

I am running the stock gsl-se computer w/afm, BAD83 is right, the stock computer IS NOT able to run a turbo alone, but I added the haltech F5 (extra injector controller) and it seems fine so far. I also run a locked distributor, and a adjustable fuel pressure regulator with the boost nipple. with 2 extra injectors.
Really I should be getting a standalone, however it's like a stock N/A until you hit boost, So for normal driving it preforms just like it used too. For gas saving purposes.... Hard times
Both the extra fuel and the injectors are activated with a boost signal, And I was able to remove the rats nest completely! Since those solenoids control the dizzy and stock regulator.
Later on in life, I may port the exhaust ports and get a full standalone and possibly get t2 rotors to put in the 6-port but I'll never go full t2.
A benefit of going t2 is the transmission (strenght)..... My brother has a full t2 swap and it wasn't cheap to do....
Whatever you decide expect it to cost you triple, what you think it will cost.

That is one hell of a beautiful engine bay! I'm not afraid to go megasquirt, but I'm still leaning on just getting an entire T2 engine. I think it will eliminate downtime for the car and end up costing really no more.

20b is a dream. you have to start somewhere. let's go with a good stock s4 TII for now ok? you and me together. But first we should get suspension and brakes.
