Turbo Exhaust
I was wondering if anyone had pics or a few pointers on doing a 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust on an FB..I need to make the exhaust from the DP back (3 inch),and I will be using a resonator along with a muffler in the rear..I have a JUN canister I will be using but have not chosen a resonator yet, ideas?? It would also be great if someone could tell me the amount and type of bends I am going to need..I'm doing stainless if I can afford it and I really don't want to mess this up since the muffler I am using cost me almost 500 dollars which is also why I want the rest of the system stainless..TIA for any input

Are you using a stock TII exhaust manifold?, Or your own custom made one?
Are you going over or under the axle?
I have a custom exhaust manifold, and it goes over the rear axle all with 3" mandrel bends and two magnaflow mufflers.
I used 2 full U bends ( that you cut and use for turning), between all the bends.

I am using stock turbo/manny for now..I'm not sure if its best to go over or under the axle, what do you think??I'm going to go look at the car today..I was thinking some 45 degree bends would be good but if I go over the axle do I need 90??Does the stock exhaust go over or under the axle??Thats my main concern, over or under and what bends I will need,I'm doing stainless so I want to be able to do it right the first time..Thanks for the input BTW,I don't know where I'd be without this board..I will take pics of the car today also,I have been slowly doing this swap for 2 over 2 years now and its finally done except for the exhaust WOO HOO!!! Now I just need to get tags and inspection!!

I used a vibrant performance ss bend its a u bend plus another aprox 80 degree bend and a iscracing midpipe, two dynomax race bullet mufflers as resonators over the axel to two elderbrock ss mufflers cermic packed. go over the axel if road condition is of any consern. going under will not make anuff differance with 3 inch because the bends are not that bad unless you are using press bends instead of mand.

If you ask me under the axle is just plain lazy. You can make a complete exhaust with 2 "U" bends over the axle. Why are you doing it in SS? Seems like a waste of money to me.

I'm thinking of just doing aluminized now,and I found a resonator, but wont the resonator burn out being that it will be fiberglass?? I plan on getting 5 feet of straight,2 u bends, and one 90..Does this sound good??I'm also not sure on the flex section as I dont think the DP on my car has one, should I worry??

I am getting everything turbo back from them, minus the rear muffler.
custom bends and leg lengths, 100% stainless steel mufflers, custom sizes are cheap, and a few differnt shapes and sizes, really nice stuff.

Do you have the layout for all the bends planned out??When do you plan on getting it??I'd like to just be able to get the rear section that goes over the axle from them but I'm not sure what exactly to ask for..

im going under the axle, almost a strait pipe,
planning on two 45s for the downpipe. then a large chambered turbo muffler, a slight bend about 25. to the axle then a anouther slight bend of about 25 degrees, pointed toward the bumper with a N1 muffler.
I might add a third muffler if it is too loud.

It cost me $80 to make that exhaust (free muffler)
It's mild steel that I sprayed with some "ceramic" paint. After 2600 miles the paint is holding up like a champ, even on the DP.
Just a option

Is it me or do you have the pipe right before the bend over the driveshaft bent slightly towards the passenger side of the car??Also, how long is the straight peice on that exhaust??I am going to get a 6 inch round and 36 inch long muffler to put where the straight peice is id I can fit it..I'm thinking I will just be able to use 2 45 degree bends and use the top of a 180 degree u-bend to make it over the axle, does this sound right??OR do you think 3 45 degree bends would be best??This is my first exhaust I am building so bear with me if I ask alot of questions..Once I figure this all out I can order the tubing and stuff...

If I remember right I did shoot it over towards the pass side of the car a bit before the muffler.
~4' of straight.
The section of straight is tucked up in the car pretty well, on my car there isn't much room for a mid muffler. If I had to put one in there I'd have to jog it down a little them put the muffler in then jog it back up again.
As I said before my whole exhaust is made from 2 "U" bends so it's doable. If I were you I'd order two regular U bends and one tight bend radius U bend. With those three bends and a section of straight you should be able to make a bad *** fully mandrel bent exhaust
