Turbo 12a- are you talking about a 12at which you have converted from efi to carb, if so have you fitted a Nikki carb and what were the difficulties in installation and how does it perform? Robert says its possibly if you modify the hood, what is your experience with the intake plumbing?

everyone is saying how hard it is, but no one is saying the problem with it..
if i were to go out and put a turbo in the car and direct it thru my stock nikki.. what would happen?
would it start? would the butterflies open up more under pressure?? would there be a lack of fuel?

well youd run out of fuel i would assume. im sure youd have to tune it for more fuel and run a rising rate fuel pressure reg.
also have to lock the dizzy and make sure your ignition is up to par, other than that low boost shouldnt be hard at all

2. Turbo will nto fit under intake manifold
3. You would run out of fuel (need pump and RRFPR)
4. I doubt the butterflies would open up.
Ok too much to list.....
I'm not an idiot, but how the hell do I hook up my Mallory 4309? Why is there 4 holes? Do I need to plug up 2? Are the 4 holes meant for a dual carb?

you have your main feed, and fuel return or something? it's weird. i suck. all this talk about carb probs is making me almost purely want to use the mega squirt efi setup. i have been planning on going turbo with my 12a and have been talking extensively to robert at rotary shack about it and he says to stay with the carb, but ummm, have any of you read up on this megasquirt? i've talked to the guy that has one on his 12a fB and it's freakin awesome. it's set up to handle BOOST TOO! WOOT! i think that's the route i'm goin!

p.s. it's CHEAP!

I agree with djmickya, lots of comment that adding a turbo to a modified Nikki is difficult but few details as to why. One problem is lack of height as it fouls the hood.
What I do know is that three seperate companies in the UK produced turbo versions and none could find a way with the Nikki. The Elford went SU for 160hp, TWR went Weber 45 DCOE for 185hp, and Motorspeed with the Weber for a clained 200hp at the flywheel. I tried the Motorspeed and Elford, their handling was poor possibly because of street tire limitations. The power may seem lowly by modern standards but full race NA RX-7s were not producing much more. In the case of turbos we still had not solved air charge temperature gains at highboost so 5-6psi was maximum.
With all the knowledge gained on turbocharging in recent years, they should have been developments to turbo the 12a Nikki so the average owner can relatively cheaply get to 200hp without porting and rebuilding.

A tiny little tube sticking out near the top is the pressure or vacuum port so it can reference against a boost source if necessary....glad to see ya ain't a cheapo! now about that JBweld nonsense....

you are very close Mar3..
the bottom is the return to the tank and the 4 other fittings are fuel inlets.... and yes he small fitting is for boost refrence!
the nikki will work for turbo-charging applications but Webe carbs are much better for blow-through systems.....
dont get me wrong, the nikki will work good but its very touchy when it comes to tuning!!!
i had a NIKKI on my 12A turbo bridge, the only thing stock was the carb body!!

BOING!!!!
Yaws modded street Nikki flows about 415-425 CFM @ atmospheric pressure!!!
You can boost the snot out of a couple of SUs and get outrageous power. (Drivability I would'nt think, though. )
So all you "Get a Holley, man!" girls can line up and lick the backsides of all the "Get EFI, man!" girls.
The man clearly stated he wanted to know about the
NIKKI CARB!

all the side inlets are fuel feed lines ....from the tank ,to the carb, to a fuel guage, whatever you want to use the inlets for...the hole on bottom has a sticker that reads BYPASS,,, to the tank
FB2.... you igniter is on its way!

So, if I were to seal the stock air lid, or some kind of hat like that, and then put a second gen turbo on it, and then a Mallory 4309 with a good pump, will it boost, or is there somthing that needs to be modified in the carb?
Please tell exactly what you need for a stock port and no more than 8 PSI.......... carb HAT, bonnet, what ever.... just on top, not completly coverin the carb.....
So the fuel system to the carb is covered, and the pressure to the carb.....
how will the cab react? normally?
Would I have to rejet it?
What else?
