Turbo 1st gen question
Ok, i am looking to put a TII engine in my 83 GS. I can get a 89 TII engine with the transmission. The engine is complete, includes turbo, intercooler, injectors, BOV, etc.. It's 1300$ CDN tax included with a 3 month warranty. So i've made a list of parts i'll need to buy to make the swap. If i'm missing some of the required parts, please let me know. Just remember that i want the less expensive solution.
- 89 Turbo II Engine + Transmission
- TII Factory ECU
- GSL-SE Oil pan
- GSL-SE Radiator
- FD or FC TII fuel pump
- Bigger Fuel lines
- 12A to 13B front motor mounts (RB)
- 12A front cover
- TII ignition
- High pressure rising rate Fuel pressure reg. (TII one or aftermarket one)
- Mass air meter
- Aftermarket downpipe
- Turbo to downpipe gasket
- Surge Tank
- Fuel Cut defender
- Coils from a 2nd gen N/A or Turbo II
- Boost Gauge with gauge pod
Sooo, what do i need else ? I planned to spend around 3000$ CDN for this swap.. I want to run stock boost on turbo.
It is a serious project so if you know you can help me, it would be appreciated.
Thanks Guys
Cheers

Got Boost?
So, wiring harness is the most difficult thing for this swap?
What are you doing for intercooling? The stock TII one is a top mount, and you probably don't have a hood scoop.
You're gonna want an oil cooler, besides the behive in your 83. Don't forget the Driveshaft, or the rest of your exhaust.
Sorry to say, but unless you can get the complete engine and all the sensors for next to nothing, you'll be hard pressed to get that 13BT into your car on only $3000 CDN

What fatboy7 says is correct. methinks you might have to go to a standalone fuel management system with this config. The 89 (S5) uses a electric OMP, which is monitored by the ecu. If the OMP is not reporting what the ecu wants to hear, it puts the motor in limp mode (at least it does on NA cars, as this has been a huge problem on my friends IT racecar). By switching the front covers, you are also switching to a mechanical OMP. Unless there is some way to mate the electric OMP to the 12a/13bSE front cover, you will find yourself experiencing this problem with the stock ecu.

Got Boost?
1) Yes, you need a custom one, or see if you can get someone to sell you a hybrid with the 1st gen differential flange attached to the TII tranny splines.
2) No, like I said ealier; an 89 w/o electronic OMP means limp mode... it won't work.

Get a 87-88 TII engine, no electronic OMP!
The easiest way to go is to buy a TWM TB and run a Haltech F10, then you dont need any of the stock crap, just run a locked out 1st gen distributor for ignition.
You can run any 2nd gen oil cooler and coils, they were the same for all years.

hondah8er- No problem, we all make mistakes.
Wankel FD Rx-7- the surge tank is a great idea, if I ever redo my fuel system thats what I'm going to do. Run stock lines up to a tank in the engine bay then the high pressure/volume pump to the fuel rail.
Looks like you have done some research.

Hondas aren't bad. Honda makes a damn good car, it's just the things people do to them that sucks.
I love my 91 integra, gets great mileage, reliable, fun to drive ect...
The only thing about them I don't like is how fast they rust.

When I was a kid I always thought honda's were OK. Now I have a deep hatred for them (namely civics) because of what people do to them. The other day I say this old man (40ish easily) driving a late 90's accord with altezza's, HUGE wing but the stock pea shooter. I almost crashed I laughed so hard. He had the most puzzled look on his face when i pointed at him and laughed.
Setzep is right, they do rust out very quickly and if you use it as a daily driver and keep it bone stock...your still ok in my books
