Turbo 12A

I may have access to a Japanese market turbo 12A. How hard would it be to get this to work in a 1985 RX-7?

Its a 12A. It will drop right in. The problem will be in the wiring of the ECU, whether you get the ECU with it or have to run a standalone setup.

Also upgrading fuel delivery due to the fact that it is fuel injected and will need a lot more fuel than the standard carbed 12A.

turbo

I found a page which states that many people use a Haltech ECU. I would also need to find a place for an intercooler. Convertig without one is pointless. I have a Holley race fuel pump on a shelf in may garage. I also have access to a turbo 13B.

the 12a and 13b swaps are COMPLETELY different...
Is the holley pump an efi pump? efi requires much more pressure
There is space for a fmic, but pipe routing might a bit hard with the stock carb hat

I run a MicroTech LT10S but here's what you'll need.

ECU - Fuel only or Fuel and Ignition
Second gen electronic distributor if you want to connect the ignition to the ECU
EFI compatable fuel pump
Probably new coils that work with the ECU
Surge tank and lift pump www.TweakIt.net has a custom one for first gen.

Intercooler is optional, 12AT was designed to work without one, but if you want to use one you'll have to modify the top hat.

If you go Haltech, look on the Internet for a tuner called the Hitman. He has a Haltech fuel map for a 12AT that you can download. Otherwise you may end up having to pay a tuner by the hour to create your map $$$. Like it did.
