? on TT circuit need help

Well i made my own circuit and hooked up a 2nd gen coil and works nicely in my 79 sa 12a. THANKS to gsl-se addict (Kent) for all the help and with stepping me through the circuit design and also the wiring in the car. looks great and runs great too, i had some problems in the beginning but once i started looking over it i found a stupid mistake and it was a simple fix. ONE QUESTION

My Question: Well my tach worked when the car was parked back in 85' (neighbor blew it up and his wife made him park it so i got it for free) but now with all my mods and rewiring i cant get it to work. i know its not a huge deal but this is my first rotary and never even driven one so i would like for it to work so i can get a feel for the rpm and sound. Now i know i can fish out the input from the back of the cluster but where to hook it up for the best results????????? Can i hook it up the new circuit or to the 2nd gen coil or where???? thanks for the help. thanks robert

when i looked in the Haynes manual it shows the tach wire as a Yg wire and it goes to the Leading coil in the diagram.

The reason im asking this is because im going to rewire it completely im going to run a new wire to the tach just not sure where to hook the other end. can you not do it to the new cricuit or 2ndgen coil??/

You could connect it to either leading or trailing, it will read the same. The advantage to having it on the trailing is that if your coil ever goes, the dead tach will point you right to it as you may not notice the slight lack in gas milage and power right away.

Connect the tach to the black wire off the 2nd gen coil ignitor or the negative wire off the transistor, not sure on the colour. As for your trailing, theres really no reason to make it direct fire, you'll see no difference at all.

which black wire. there is a single black wire that had a connector end on it then there was a red and tan one with a connector with both in it and then there are two wires that jump from the ignitor to the coil and they are black too. so which one on the 2nd gen do i use? i figure the single black on that comes from the ignitor but not sure????? thanks robert

Hey Robert,

Good to hear you are getting it going. I am back now, so if you need any more help, let me know. For the tach wire, you can either connect it to the incoming signal for the TT (YG wire), or the trailing -, or the little black wire that comes off the top of the 2nd gen coil (has the little black connector on it). Either one of these should work fine for the tach signal. Good luck.

Kent
