Trouble Shooting

I have an 85 Mazda RX7 GSL-SE. I am having problems with it. I idles fine and runs fine half of the time. The other half of the time when you give it gas it wants to bogg out and actually slows down. I have put in a new factory fuel pump and filter. it didn't help anything. I washed out the tank and put fresh fuel in it and that didn't help either. I am thinking now that it is possably the computer. Can anyone help me out here!

Have you checked any of your ignition wiring? I would gues that a tune up may be in order for new plugs, wires and dist. cap. My 7 was bogging down really bad because i was running so rich, makes for awesome backfires. Also check the TPS sensor. Good luck

Welcome to the forum.
Need to know when does it act up? Is it in hot weather?. Is it after driving for a period of time? Or is it when it is colder outside? Need all the info you can supply. Need to know how long you have owned it. When the last time ignition components were changed, etc. PM me and i'll walk you thru it.

It does not act up in any certain way. although it seems to be more aggrivated when it has been running awhile. But it has happened when the engine is cold too. It will idle fine its just when you give it gas it acts like it isn't getting fuel. I once had to drive it 10 miles at about 15 miles an hour because thats all the faster I could go. You try and accelerate and it slows down. it has never backfired or anything like that. My dad owned the car for several years and then sold it. Then the guy he sold it to got cancer and needed money so I bought the car back. I have owned it for two years now and it ran fine when I first bought it. Then stored it over the winter. Went to get it out in the spring and it started doing this. My dad is a mazda mechanic and it has him baffeled. He seems to think it could be the computer going haywire. I am just skeptical. The car is a real looker. it only has 90k miles on it and is the nicest rx7 around. Just wish I could drive it once in a while.

storage

When you stored it, was it outside? Was it under a cover or in the garage? Lif the carpet up from the passenger side floorboarda nd remove the cover where the ECU is and make sure that no water got into the wiring or ECU.
Make sure if it was stored that mice or rats did not eat away at any portion of the wiring harness. Did you inspect the air filter box and make sure it is not clogged up with debri, maybe from a rats nest?
Have you check for firing to both ignitors? Has the cat been checked for blockage?
When was the last time the Distributor rotor was changed?
