the GSL-SE trans have a breather hole on the passenger side of the bell-housing...
there is also a silver colored sticker on the top of each trans, I have never had the time to look them over or catalog them to see if there is a difference in numbers...
maybe we should start one, possibly post a number from a known correct "numbers matching" car.

79 and 80 have the different shifter location.
SE has the "slot"
81 - 85 12a dont look like the ones above.
81 - 83 autos are shorter and have one less gear then the 84- 85 auto's.
Never looked at a 79 or 80 auto.

starting that sounds good.
I am thinking just 4-5 speeds as of now.
79 and 80 have the different shifter location, that is true.
SE has the "slot". the 84 and 85 either had different gears in the tranny or different ones in the rear end.
81-84 had the same gear ratio if I remember right
85 was all alone and buy it self. (This is the tranny I need)
I will have to look into this as i need to buy a 1985 12a 5 speed tranny, but I got to figure out a way to make sure it is a 85.
