Trailing ignition problem.

Alright, I have an MSD 6AL on my leading coil (Blaster 2 High Vibration) and it works perfectly, the trailing is all stock and im gettin no spark out of it. The coil is good, but no spark coming from it. I have searched with no avail. Any opinions?

BTW: The car seems to run fine without the trailing plugs just smells a whole lot worse. And the idle is a little bit rougher.

I put the MSD box on their because the leading went out and had the exact same symptoms. Should i put one on the trailing?

Could be a bad ignitor on trailing.

My experience with no trailing was that it made NO difference. Of course I also had direct fire on leading, which takes over for trailing for the most part as it burns the fuel in the 'squish zone' at the trailing edge of the rotor. I could drive for miles without trailing working and wouldn't even notice it. The only way I have to tell is if the tach stopped working.

Is this a 1980? The 1980 models had a single ignitor box on the fender. If that went bad, it could explain why both the leading and trailing failed.

Nah 80s have two igniters their just hidden in the box.

Whatever took out your leading igniter may have affected your trailing. Make sure your harness from the dizzy is sound. It runs down along the side of the block, under the AC (if you have it) and back up to the igniter box. Maybe its shorting out on something.

You can test the dizzy to make sure the pickups are working. I don't remember the procedure but its in the FSM section 5-E-3 C. Check the gap of the magnetic pickup 5-E-4 5. And section 5-F shows you how to check the igniters.

Hopefully you'll get it up and running for the next meet so I won't be the only SA there

I wont be able to bring out to the next meet, I have to get some new tires on it. The ones on it now are about 13 years old so ya.... I will try to be out there though, even if I have to drive my big *** gray truck.

Thanks for the info, do any of yall think I should go with another MSD box?

That is doable. The thing you need to know is if you are getting a good pickup signal from the dizzy to the ignitor. If the problem with your trailing is in the dizzy, or the wiring, than another MSD won't do you any good. If you guys are going to the meet in the afternoon Sunday, I might just bring the ol SA out for ya .

how do you check to make sure your getting good pickup? It has an FB dizzy in it i think. I had to have one of my good rotary friends fix it for me cause it had me stumped. he swapped out the dizzy and i dont know if he put another SA one on it or not.
