tps on a 1st gen?
i am a neewb to the hole first gen thing, always had a 2nd gen, i was cleaning up the rats nest, and pulled the carb to rebuild it, when i saw a tps..... wtf is that ddoin there, it's carbed... why does it need a tps.... can i just take it off, or do i really need it, also i eventually wanted to go with IDA's.... what happens to it with the new carbs..... Please help A.S.A.P.

You do not have a TPS. Probably mistaking the idle switch. If it IS a TPS, It will be held on with 2 screws and when you take it off, it will have a twistable center piece that fits on the end of the throttle plate shaft.

12A carb'd cars DO have a TPS.Its on the front lower corner of the carb,down by the secondary actuator.Its a simple, narrow range plunger type TPS much like the S4 and SE engines use.
The 12A cars,despite being carb'd,do have an ECU and it relys on the TPS and other input devices to feed it info about the engine's state.The ECU is very primitive and basically just controls the mechanical solenoids and mixture valves on the carb and rats nest.
