Tough-to-search-for Clutch Question
I'm in need of a new clutch.
So, I'm swapping the clutch & transmission at the same time (As I definitely have a problem with 5th gear-- bearing?-- and suspect other transmission problems as well), and I wanna do this economically for now... I don't necessarily need performance parts
I've asked before about the iClutches kit.. and I'm thinking of giving it a try....
My only question is,
Does the kit marked 83-88 non-turbo definitely only work for those years? (I assume this is a yes, as RacingBeat lists '79-82 and '83-?? separately)
What is different between my '81 clutch and the '83 (12A) clutch on my parts car?
I won't have problems mounting the '83 tranny to the '81 engine, will I?
Do I use the '81 clutch since it's an '81 engine? Or do I use the '83 clutch since it's an '83 transmission?
Thanks

'79-82 had a 215mm clutch.
'83-91 had a 225mm clutch.
The clutch must match the flywheel. So, '83 flywheel, 225mm clutch. '81 flywheel, 215mm clutch. Aftermarket flywheel, whatever it was designed for.
I've heard of people using the wrong disk with the right pressure plate, but I don't think it's a good idea.
The trannies will be no problem - direct bolt in.
