took my car to the drags
Hey guys
I took my car to the turbo titles a couple of weeks ago!
I picked the car up on the friday after the 9 inch convertion, drove it home, booted it only a couple of times in 2nd and 3rd (fried the tyres all the way), then went to the drags the next day. Mind you i have never raced at the drags before, so rocking up to make my debute at a fairly big event (turbosmart turbo titles) was a bit scary, and also i had never driving on slicks either lol, So in full street trim, which means air cleaner, full exhaust, full intererior (even left the jack and spare wheel in hehehe) pump fuel and 17 - 18 psi boost, My first ever run was 11.36 @ 123mph with a 1.7 60ft, on my 3rd run i did my best which was an 11.06 @ 126mph, and a 1.58 60ft, i did a couple more runs but buggered up the launch and then i began having clutch troubles (it was slipping) so i packed it up, the car will definatly get into the 10's as it is : ) I am now putting a custom twin plate in it, which there are a lot of cars over here in the low 9's running them so this should fix the slipping
I have also updated my website (its still a bit dodgy so some links may not work )

cheers

thanks guys
Rice:
I didn't wieght it, though it would be a fair bit heavier than a standard serries 3, Yeah you should of brought yours along, are you going to run it soon?? Also what are your thoughts on the stock cosmo intake manifolds???

thanks mate, yours should acheive that pretty easily i reckon, provided you have good traction

As for the extra dowels, they machine out the end housings and rotor housings where the through bolts go through on the ignition side of the engine, there is 4 dowels per rotor housing

okay ... this might be a dumb question, but bear with me, please ... i don't run a turbo on my Rx-7, but i'm wrestling with the possibility.
what exactly do the extra dowels accomplish? i mean, i'm guessing it's extra insurance to keep the housings aligned under really high boost, am i right?
however, if they are only on the ignition side of the engine (which i know is where the OEM dowels are) wouldn't that basically leave the intake/exhaust side more prone to getting blown apart under insane boost levels?
explain it to me, please?
thanks!

and yes you can still crack plates even if they are dowled though the chance's are far less

Well there's two per housing as is, so I guess I'll have to add four dowels on the next engine I build (it's a turbo 12A thing I'm playing with). Is there any place in particular I should place them? Walk me through it if you know the process. And is cooling hindered at all once you take up those coolant passages?

they go around the through bolts on the spark plug side, i don't know exactly which ones, as i didn't see my engine apart after it was done. Though i would imagine you would dowel the ones nearest the spark plugs as that is where all the stress is. As for cooling i haven't had a problem, my engine sits on 84 degrees C even when it is 30+ degrees C outside

Hey Cach22 I'm in the process of doing the same swap you did (cosmo engine). If you don't mind me asking, what did you do to the exhaust sleves when you ported it? Take them out, replace them with FD ones, port them? I'm just wondering because I know down the road when my engine is a part I will be doing something to those ugly sleves.
thanks

Arent the sleeves held in with roll pins? The roll pins are driven through the rotor housing???, the only way to remove the roll pins is to disassemble the motor? Am I right or wrong?
