Best: Illuminas all around.

2nd best: Blues on front, Illuminas in back.

3rd best: Blues all around.

Also, in my opinion, if you have any intentions of racing (autocross, track, drifting, etc.) then skip the RB springs and save up for coilovers. I tried the RB products, then later upgraded to the Respeed coilovers because the RB products just didn't give the level of performance I needed. I used up a lot of money and time trying the RB stuff first.....

My RB red springs have served admirably for many years for spirited road use. They were a nice upgrade for the tired stock springs when I bought them, about 10 years ago, and thus far have showed no sag. They were also stupid-easy to put in when changing struts.

But I don't track-race the car, so I can't comment on their trackworthyness. And their design hasn't changed in quite a long time. Quite easy to imagine that better choices have come down the pike in the years between.

we used to run a 2a setup, which was nice, blues in the front and stock oem gsl-se shocks in the rear. the stock shocks were inexpensive, although i see that they are not anymore (mazdatrix is $87)

additionally kyb makes a "gr2" shock set, which should just be thrown away

Another suspension question-how big of a difference do bushings play. My dad was telling me that replacing the bushings with poly ones should be paramount, but I wasn't too sure they'd make a noticeable improvement.

Also, what is all this talk of removing the rear sway bar? What benefit does it show?

i personally haven't replaced all my bushings but i have replaced the idler arm bushings and that made a HUGE difference in handling and that was just with oem replacement from advance auto. i can't wait to re-do my whole suspension the front needs it quite bad, rears are still good.

as far as the rear sway bar i've heard that a lot, as far as i know it makes cornering easier, but not sure.

Some people have found that removing the rear swaybar helps with the "snap oversteer" issues that some see with the RX7. This snap oversteer comes when the rear suspension moves far enough to bind, which restricts the movement needed by the suspension and temporarily creates massive oversteer.

I have found (with my car at least) that if you upgrade the rear springs/shocks, you end up limiting the amount that the rear end moves during cornering. Since the rear suspension no longer moves to the point of binding, problem solved. This allows you to put the rear bar back on and get the car handling the way is was meant to....
