timing
if i bought a car that the dist. was out and the pulleys and belts and accessories were off the motor
how do i put the eccentric pulley back on the right way, it seems to bolt up 1 of four ways.
also how do i correctly set the dist after the front of the motor is reassembled?

The engine is at TDC when the keyway in the front of the eccentric shaft is at 9 o'clock when viewed from the front. Install the front pulley so that the timing marks line up.
Then turn the distributor so that the little dimple (not the hole for the pin) lines up with the little pointer cast into the body of the distributor. Install the distributor making sure that it doesn't turn much (it will turn a little bit as the gears mesh). Once the distributor is installed, turn it to manually to set it a bit retarded, start the motor and set the timing with a timing light.

first off, determine TDC, 0 deg, mark on the pulley. then get a flashlight, look into the exhaust port of front rotor and rotate shaft til u see the apex seal pass the port. position pulley on shaft where the 0 deg mark aligns the closest with the pointer on the front cover. then rotate to the 0 deg mark. the dist has a pointer like thing cast into the housing, align it with the dimple on the gear, then insert. this is how i'd do it, others may have different ways to do it.
