Thread Diameter and Pitch of Shifter?

I went to the hardware store to try and find a bolt which fits into my 85 GSL SE shifter ****. The hardware store only had M12x1.25 and M12x1.75 thread bolts. Neither fit, but I am pretty sure the thread is an M12x1.5. Can anyone confirm this for me? My thread gage is at work.

FWIW I want to cut a new **** on a lathe. That's why I want to know.

Thanks

Greg
