Those of you with 6x9's in the stock rear location..
Before I'm told to use the search button, I already did. Didn't find the info I need.
My question, you guys with the 6x9's back there.. do you have any photos of what you had to modify to do so? I've heard you had to cut either the inner fender or the plastic cover? Which is it? My current rear speakers are Polk eX series II. Model EX602a.. I've heard the second series isn't as good as the first... Is it worth the time to stick 6x9's back there, or should I just get a set of Inifinity Reference 6.5's to match my Reference 4's up front and finish my sub boxes for the taillights?
Oh yea.. an update on them... the preliminary mold for the sub boxes in front of the taillights should (hopefully) be finished by the end of this weekend.. I may have the first set (MINE! he he) done in 3 weeks...

I cut in Sony explode 3 ways back there and love them to death. You have to cut the metal and the plastic for them to look good. ake sure they are both lined up exactly the same way before cutting. I used a rotozip to cut through the pastic and metal at the same time. It saved a lot of time lining things up and cutting both seperatly.

My Alpine 6x9s fit just fine without cutting the metal... I screwed them into wooden supports I cut out and mounted behind the plastic. Hard to explain, easy to do. Basically I took the plastic out, enlarged the holes (that you have to do), mounted the speakers on them, and installed them back in. Anyways, no metal cutting and they look and work great.

I cut the metal on the side to fit it in...than i cut the interior panel so i can have the speaker covers that came with them fit over top of where the speakers were put in. Damn, i thought i had a pic of it...

I got Cerwin Vega 6x9's back there.. I just took a set of tin snips and cut them out. I dont like using saws in areas the shavings can fall into, that is a nice recipe for rusted quarter.. BTW: i didnt cut the plastic and mine looks factory. The grill is quite large and the tweters and mids fire through quite well, not to mention the 6x9's are quite punchy in there

Sometimes I think people have the same skill levels as me on stuff Just use a pair of Tin snips, get a left handed cut and a right handed cut... Now you better look really close at the plastic grill, I dont think the Infinity gril is gonna fit over that.. if you cut it... I got those vegas in mine and dont have any problem with the sound coming out really good... A lot of factory cars have larger speakers than the grills indicate.. Look at dodge ram trucks/older ford full size trucks... The dodge has a 6X9 and the grill isnt the same as the surface area of the speaker...Same with early 90's ford trucks the grill is a little strip of mettal grill over the 6 1/2
