To those using aftermarker Fuel Level Gauge...

...With the stock sending unit, which Gauge did you go with and how accurate is it?

I was thinking about getting a custom gauge made to ohm correctly with the stock sending unit, but if I can find something close, I'll go with that. As of right now, I'm stockpiling the Autometer SportComp gauges, and would like to stick with the same gauge. Let me know what you guys are using, and how accurate it is.

I have not found an aftermarket analog sending unit that matches the ohm range of our oem sending unit. I bought the Autometer universal one and modified the mounting plate and float arm to fit our tanks. My dash cluster has the speedo and tach only now, the other 4 gauges were replaced and moved to below the radio and the A pillar.

This week I'm looking in to installing the S4 intank fuel pump. These units come with the sending unit, pump and low fuel sensor in a single package. I won't be using the fuel level part of it, but if the install is sucessful, I will do a write up on the mod. This will eliminate many of the fueling headaches involved in the TII swaps.

Please document your install of the S4 fuel pump/sensor assembly into the 1st gen tank. Photos much appreciated.

Thanks.

Come on guys! I've seen some cars with an aftermarket gauge. What'd you do to get it to work?

I cut a scrap tank in half and used it for a mock up mule. With the universal sender, I had to make a new plate to mount to the tank and hold the sender. Then it's just a matter of setting the lever arm at the right length and angle to get a reading close to the true fuel level.

There are some high dollar digital ones that may work easier. Iirc, the ohm range can be adjusted, but it's been a while since I've looked at them.

Its in my Rx2...but I did the same as was mentioned...got an Autometer gauge and modified the stock mount on the fuel tank. Seems to work just fine.

There are no gauges out there that use the same OHM range as the stock Mazda sender. I've used a GM sender with the stock gauge, but thats about it.
