thin oil scare

Was waiting for a friend at HEB and killing time flipping through old receipts in the glove box and found one from jiffy lube a few months ago and looked over the parts sold and it was Signature Service -26 something and then i saw 5W-30 bulk on there too and turned a bit white with fear that my car had been running that in the 95˚F heat for several months. It doesn't make any funny noises or scraping or squealing or anything that would indicate worn/warped/scored parts as far as i can tell from just listening to it but would i need to take apart the motor and measure everything to make sure it's still in spec or would it be fine since nothing is wrong yet? changed oil yesterday to 20W-50 and new filter. also used bitch of a drain bolt as an excuse to get a new 50 piece 3/8" drive socket set but that's besides the point. also changed the spark plugs and found a sizeable chunk of carbon on the tip of the L2 plug. high rpm misfires are gone though .

let me know if anyone knows if my motor is now a ticking time bomb or if it's fine and i'm treating my car too delicately.

I think you'll be just fine. Oil is oil, as long as you have plenty of it, you have nothing to worry about (just don't run that viscosity in those temps for long periods of time). If you are getting chunks of carbon on your plugs you may want to do a search in the archives for decarbonizing your rotary. Seafoam has been a good product for me.

The biggest difference i noticed when i ran anything thinner than 20w-50 was that it tended to burn more oil, and had a puff on start-up. I wouldnt freak out about running it once
