There is a bird crirping in my engine

there is a chirping sound coming from my motor after i removed my 5th and 6th port sleeves and had my injectors flow tested and all that happy trash done to them and now it wont hold an idle. I have taken averything back off and discoverd one of the injector seats was sitting on the exhaust mannifold so oops put that back on and also discovered i vacume line was off put that back on and stil wont hold an idle. I have a very bad feeling somehow a apex seal is chattering. My motor wont hold an idle long enough for me to determine if indeed a seal has been ruined. any suggestions or ideas would be great. 85 SE

I don't follow you when you say that you had an injector 'seat' hitting against the exhaust manifold. What do you mean by that?

Also, you should be aware that your '6-ports' expose an exhaust leak when under throttle because of the backflow that they receive to operate them. In other words, if you don't block off the '6-port' holes, you will have an exhaust leak that will be audible - I don't know if it sounds like a bird chirping, but that could be part of the cause. They receive the pressure air from a runner that looks like part of the mount. Only one of these holes is 'powered' by air from the exhaust, however, so you'll have to take a close look if you're capping them off with a blocking plate or something.

It's not unusual to hear the seals making a 'whishing' sound when the car is running, especially when it's cold. I don't think anyone will be able to attest to a sound that the engine makes when an apex seal goes out other than no sound at all(!). Maybe try premixing some MMO in the gasoline to make sure that you're getting enough lubrication and if the noise goes away, have a close look at your OMP and linkages.

If the engine is otherwise running well, I wouldn't worry about the noise. HTH,

bird chirping sound= chrome missing on the rotorhousing or not enough oil injection = add more oil to your gas to decrease bird sounds ... no worries

Thanks for the responses all of them are great. What i have done is removed exhaust mannifold to determine if ive broken an epex seal or if one is stuck and there are all in good shape and have alot of life left to them. No i did not forget to hook up omp lines and yes i plugged every vaccume hole and orifice that had anything to do with my 5th an d 6th ports. What i meant by my injecter seat on my exhaust manifold is that it fell off the b ottom of injector during initoal install of injectors so i was trying to start the car with 1 injector grommet off. I cannot get an idle out of the car at all it will start right away and rev freely alot smoother than b4 but in the lower rpms where im fethering the gas to keep the motor running is when i am hearing my chirping noise. any other suggestions? also where is the EGR is it on top of the lower intake mannifold? if so is it safe to just cap that cuz it is the only nipple where i didnt see an appropriate place for another vac line to tie into.

Throwout bearing or pilot bearing also sound like a bird chirping.

great point cuz my throwout bearing is bad. i have an FC turbo throwout bearing which is stronger and is a replacement for the stock but the only way to determine if the noise is there is push the clutch in when the engine is running or replace the T out bearing and if noise is still there im back at square 1 again. any other suggestions about idle could the egr valve have anything to do with no idle?

Um,... you didn't say yet, but did you replace the lower grommet on the injector seal that you lost?

Without all of the injector seals in place, you have a gaping hole under the injector that will cause A) a huge vacuum leak, and B) a chirping sound as the rotor sucks air through that hole.

It's kinda important...

The grommoet is on the injector and in new shape no damage from falling on the exhaust mannifold. That was my problem the first time around. Will the tps creat no idle conditions or just a eacky idle?

I have just found out myself how picky the TPS really is. I though yea right, on this old car? Well I got off my *** and bought 2 $2 red LED's from radio shack, wired them up, and would you believe it, it works awesome! I did break on of the LED's though, stupid on my part haha so I have to spend another $2 to make sure its adjusted again.

there is a controversy wether or not it gives you more power do a search in the 2nd gen forum as you will find tons of info on it. to me since i have removed all emissions they are basically useless unless i wire them to stay open which to me is useless, also cuz them being open all of the time is not what they are suppose to do i was looking for more top end not because i spend most of my time there but because they just arent working at there full capability, so why have them taking up air movement?
