Telling Apart GSL-SE

Hey,

Are there any cosmetic ways to tell a GSL-SE apart from the other trim levels of the 84-85 FB? Thanks.

Will

Only on the rear is there an emblem stating GSL-SE, the rims are 14 inch instead of 13 and if still running the stock exhaust it will have a double chrome tip. The driver will have a knowing, sage, visage reflecting a secretive superior position in the automobile world! Otherwise you have to pop the hood and view the injected 13B.

If you can see the brakes they will be larger with vented discs in the rear as well.

84-85, all trim levels had a different type of dash then earlier years. They also had vent slots in the lower valence.

GSL and GSL-SE had a rear wiper and a Sun Roof.

That narrows it down a bit.

Then you have to get into measuring wheel bolts if they run aftermarket wheels.

If you really wanna, look into the grille. If you see an external oil cooler, it's either modded or is a GSL-SE.

The only true way to tell is to look a the engine and measure the rear suspension links. (It is possible to put a GSL-SE engine into a GSL and 12A into a GSL-SE... The SE will still retain the better rear suspension, even if you use the GSL axle. I doubt anyone would do these swaps.)

FWIW, *all* '84-85 have the lower links mounted .8" lower in the front. My GSL has 'em mounted lots lower than my '80 GS did. In the '80 the link is right up against the floor, while on the '85 it's spaced down a good deal.

I heard another way to tell a GSL-SE from a 12A car is the big silver airfoil over the rear...

Everybody tells me that ONLY the GSL-SE had the 20 mm lower suspension links, and that it was a chasis thing, so I couldn't convert my GSL to GSL-SE just by putting in the drivetrain and engine.

Nope. I've seen GSL-SE's that look exactly like my GSL.

Wing? are you shitten? SEs diddn't come with wings. The suspension was changed on all 84-85 RX-7s. The sweet thing about the SE was it was a sleeper, if someone beat a 12a they automatically assumed they could beat you not knowing it was different. The stance was also noticeably different, almost jacked up a little in the rear compared to others.

I've seen it. I believe someone on here called it a patio and asked if Denny had a new barbecure grill to go with it.

I'd say it looks okay, maybe a bit too high.. But if thats where it's functional, then cool.
