tank for 2 stroke oil
I would like to find a nice tank to use as the supply for 2 stroke oil to be fed to the OMP on my SA's. about 5-6 quarts would be nice. A level sensor or low level sensor would be good as well.
Any suggestions?
Cost?

5-6 quarts is the oil capacity for the engine. That would last you 5k and more miles before a refill. A washer reservoir can work, or search for 'catch cans'. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes, some have a petcock at the bottom that would work for the gravity feed for the supply line.

tank specs
It looks like the area along the pasenger side fender back against the firewall would take an 8"x8"x6" tank. that would be enough, but if I can find a tank"ready made" it would save a lot of work in fabricating an aluminum tank. Not to mention the cap, outlet, and level sensor. If I relocate the widshield washer fluid bottle it would open up a bit more room. 8" dia ABS pipe 8" tall with end caps could be used as a base. That still leaves the fill cap and level sensor to work out.
Keep the ideas coming.

I don't think using the coolant reservoir or other plastic containers is such a hot idea. I read in a thread where those bottle start to crack and deteriorate after a while because the were never meant to hold oil so the oil over time just eats away at them. If that was to crack and all the oil seeped out you would be sh*t out of luck if you did not catch it in time. So make sure to check your containers for cracks ever so often to be on the safe side.

Before I had to scrap my 1st gen, I was going to use one of those stella beer kegs that you can buy from supermarkets, mine cost me £15 from Tesco, and it held 9L - no idea if you can get them in the US though!
And as for the OMP, I just filled in the pickup hole with epoxy resin, and modded one of the endcaps to take a barb, which was going to be gravity fed (as per the usual mod) from the stella keg.
I was going to get an old fuel tank sender installed as well, so I could see how much was left whilst driving - but I never got that far

If you go the plastic pipe route, make a sight tube on the side of it. If you have a tank with a full quart capacity, you don't really need a level sender. If you aren't opening the hood more than once every 3k miles, you should take more interest in your 'baby'.

Please elaborate on the "barb in the endcap" idea. Is this something that would work on a 1979 12A or just on one of the later systems?

I'm not sure exactly what the OMP looks like on the 13b engines, but AFAIK, all 12a engines are the same for the OMP. It's just a generic push-fit barb - similar to what you use on a garden hosepipe, but on a much smaller scale - get one with a threaded fitting, so you can simply tap the end of the OMP to get a good seal
You should be able to get them from model shops, for use on nitro RC cars - the fuel pipe is also fuel+oil resistant if you want to buy some from there

Stock OMP's are ****!! 5-6ml per minute is pretty average. If you have a good motor that revs hard premixing with your petrol is the way to go. 100:1 is a good ratio to work from.
It may seem like a hassle to put in in your tank but it is well worth it. Oh yeah and your exhaust gasses smell like a race car.

oil tank
How about a tank from 2 cycle machine that has one engineered for oil - like dirt bikes, snowmobiles, 4 wheelers...One from a dirt bike may be small enough to allow more mounting options. I like that idea of a separate tank...

oil mystery
That ratio has me thinking 13BEEF...
Question for all:
Oil must reach the surfaces that need lubrication/sealing. Does the standard injectected oil reach those surfaces diluted to the same ratio as it does in a pre-mix 100:1?
It has me wondering where the injection point is...I'm not very familiar with the oil injection circuit yet and am just curious. It also has me wondering what the flow rate of the oil inection is.
If 5-6 ml /minute is average, what is the maximum flow rate? I suppose the flow rate would be proportional to engine speed just like the fuel flow, yes? Any data on that?
I do feel better when I add a couple ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil to my tank!

After rebuiding my nikki I noticed where the oil is injected- there are two small holes on the body of both primaries near the venturis on the engine side of the carb. I have been thinking about going premix since I have heard about all the advantages but how do you disconnect the omp? can it be re-installed if going back to stock?
