tales of me trying to buy a freaking fb.

checked out another fb today.

silver gsl with 227,000kms. woth front fenders damaged(one badly), slightly caved lip on the rear wheelwell. needed new muffler. some storage bin rust on both sides.

I had him meet me at work so i could have the mechanics take a look at it.

guy wants waaay too much for it considering mileage and condition-- 2500can dollars. so scratch that one.

new lead:

84 MAZDA RX7 GSL, FLAWLESS LEATHER INTERIOR, POWER WINDOWS, POWER BRAKES, SUNROOF, WHITE, CAR IN GREAT SHAPE, SAT FOR 2 YRS, NEW TIRES, RUNS GREAT $2000can OBO.

called the guy: he was surprised that the add was posted so quickly online, and told me the car was a mint gsl, but he was putting in a new 98,000 KM engine, since the old one was blown. he even lives like 15 blocks from me. the only problem the car is still in the shop fir the engine and wont be out for a few days.

the problem is is that it sat in storage (inside) for a long time, and has an aftermarket exaust(possibly no cats either) that may not pass aircare. i dont know how easy it will be to make this thing pass. and if it costs more than 500$can to do, i will be in serious trouble, since it won't be insurable untill that's done.

he said to call back in a couple of days and he should have the car ready by then. this one looks exciting!

GT1: that car sounds pretty good. How much are you looking to get?

Thorin: I have a stock 85GSL in NorCal with 54k actual miles. Clutch slips. Power is down a tad so I'm lugging a new Bonerz cat around under the hatch, waiting to get a new muffler. Interior is cherry except for a wear spot on the drivers side bolster. LF fender is creased, but I have a new one at the house awaiting paint and R&R. I plan to replace some tires , repair and lower driver seat, re-paint the whole thing (as the paint is dull, tho it looks OK).

Nice car, and I have no idea what it's worth. Probably a little north of $2000US because of it's low mileage and lack of abuse. Make me an offer and save me from marital hell, as I expect to drag an 84GSL-SE home next weekend to join the 83GS and 85GSL in the driveway. If I don't do this right I may have to sleep in one of the cars; hard to do when you're 6'2", especially a GSL.

well, norcal is a pretty big drive, and to be honest, i cant afford 2000$us. thats like 3000$ canadian, plus duties, taxes and inspection fees. though i would love to have a cali car. what with the much-less-rain-and-consequently-much-less-rust than here and all. :b
