t2 fb with factory third gen muffler

I was wondering if anyone here has tried the factory third gen muffler on their t2 swap. I believe that the factory third gen muffler is a 2.5inch inlet but I think it would work good as a good quiet option.
The reason I am asking is I am currently running a bullet presilencer, mangnaflow straight through to a borla turbo xl dual outlet and the resonation is really bad. I have checked for leaks and metal on metal contact but have found no issues. Also I have put on tips to make sure that exhaust exists beyond the car but it has no effect.

Any tips or ideas would be helpful

I would go with a Borla XR-1 14" long oval as a pre-silencer. If you plan on upping the hp or turbo, the I strongly recommend going with a full 3" exhaust. RB's S4 TII complete exhaust system gives a 51 hp increase. That ups the fwhp from 180 to 231. That upgrade also requires an FCD and porting the wastegate. The FCD lies to the ecu about the true boost pressure and porting the wastegate cuts down on boost creep.

Whoops forgot to mention I have full 3inch exhaust. I already am running the fcd and enlarged waste gate to prevent creep. But I am looking to reduce the volume/resonance of the exhaust at the expense of a few ponies. My ride is fast enough and fun I would just like it to be a little less noisy. Do high flow cats cut back on noise? Are they worth the investment?

Go with a 3" XR-1 14" oval. You'll be quite pleased with the results since you already have a 3" system. The turbo itself acts as a pre-pre-silencer. A TII friend of mine bought the Corksport single outlet 3-1/8" system and it was loud. Once he installed the Borla it sounded beautiful.

Go with an RB large universal presilencer. Ask PercentSevenC how quiet and excellent sounding his S5 turbo sounds on his blow through setup. I'm freaking jealous of how awesome it sounds. Like a Racing Beat full exhaust system for a 1st gen; the one with dual presilencers in the center section, but is 3" all the way. Just one 18" long Mangaflow 5x8 oval in the back. Exhaust tubing is only 16 gauge; thin but doesn't drone at all thanks to the turbo.

Jeff could you elaborate more on your friends exhaust. Is running a single 3 in universal presilecer from racing beat? Or is he running the dual tube style found in the rb streetport exhaust?

I'm running a 3" racing beat presilencer and a straight through design vibrant muffler 3" inlet and dual 3" outlets, really nice and low sound at idle, may be a bit much drone sounding at a constant highway speed though.

if you have one, the FD muffler will be quiet, probably loose a few HP though, they don't flow that great

Yes! I love my exhaust. It still has enough volume for my taste but doesn't get annoying. Gotta take a video one of these days.

If you want to cut down on the volume even more, go with a RB universal presilencer and an RB universal muffler with a down-turned tip welded on, both in 3". But I think that would actually be a little too quiet for me; the Magnaflow lets just a little bit of an edge through that I really like.

Anyone tried the Rotor muffler?

http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda2.htm

And is there any difference to their universial muffler?

Never heard one myself, but according to RB, they have less packing and are louder than the regular universal.

I did look at a rb third gen muffler but the hefty 560 for a muffler is a bit much.
