Swap 83 rotor/housing with a 85?
I toasted the rear rotor and housing in my 85 gs. I can post pics if anyone wants to see my handy work.
I found a junked 83, so here's the questions can i just replace the rotor and housing and be on my merry way? Or are there gotchas?
Can a rotor/housing still be good from a engine that's sat for a few years?
Anything else that should be replaced while I have everything apart?
I miss my 7 bad, nothing else like it.

Nope, you cant just rebuild half the motor. The minute you pull the tension bolts out of that motor, things become lossended. So if you got a rebuild kit, you could use the housing and rotor from the 83. Not a problem there.

the '83 and '85 engines are identical, so there's no worries.
Except.
You better hope that that '83 engine has a good rear rotor and housing. Or at least, a good rear rotor. The housings can be swapped, but the rotors are very asymmetrical and they are definite "front" and "rear" rotors. I am sure you've already noted this, having torn down the dead engine, but it bears repeating for good measure.

i don't see why you just don't take the 83 engine and just swap the engines out i mean if the 83 is a good engine and it's the same as your GS engine then swap em... you already have the engine out anyways.
