Suspension Q - 'bang' at rear

Quick question: My car has developed a bang in the rear drivers side suspension after jacking up the car for a clutch replacement. The suspension is quite stiff and when I was jacking it up, the rear tyres also left the ground on each side. The bang is only over medium/large bumps and the movement feels OK when parked. Any ideas on the problem?

Possibly old dead suspension. Shocks might be going bad.

Hoping not to hear that! Thought it might be the spring just moved from its position or something. Damn. This might be the start of pouriing even more money into the b*tch.

What year and model of b*tch is this? My SE, like every SE I've driven, bottoms out rather easily on the rear limit snubbers. Fortunately, the rear shocks are cheap and rather easily replaced, I think, and that's easier and cheaper than waiting too long and having to replace weakened springs.

It is an 82 Model, I suppose I better jack it up and have a look instead of being lazy? (plus i'm at work)

I had a bad rear exhaust hanger on my 85 that made it clunk over some bumps, just a thought

Thanks will have a look at the exaust because I basically had to disconnect nearly all of it when replacing the clutch. I hope this is the problem but as it is an custom 2' all the way through and doesnt seem to go near anything, i doubt it is.
