Superchargers, and 12A turbo's
It seems a lot of you who are going with forced induction are choosing the 13B turbo set-up.
Isn't this a bigger cost? Isn't there a lot more work and fabrication involved? Are you guys going with stand-alone haltech's or some carb?
How about the 12A turbo kit? Corksport says they can get the J-spec ones for about $800. Not bad. I am guessing the J-Spec 12A runs about 5 pounds of boost. It isn't intercooled, is it?
What do you guys think of the Atkins supercharger kit? Any of you guys using it? http://www.atkinsrotary.com/supercha.htm
Looks like the 5 inch 12A kit is about $1895, but they are coming out with 7 inchers for more $$.
I dunno...I guess I would think the Atkins kit and a streetport would be better.
Just looking for a few answers..and why you guys(RX7passion, F.W.) chose the set-up you chose.

If I were to do a 12a turbo setup id look into mazdaracing.com they make custom turbo solutions that are upgradeable and are blow through carb setup... start around $2300 for a full setup I believe.... Not sure how much HP it would put out.
I think most guys opt for the 13BT engine swap cause theres already tons of aftermarket upgrades available for em and for the higher displacement of the 13B and it isnt that much more than most other forced induction options. For a bare stock type 13BT setup itll probably come to around $3-4000 that might be on the high side and it might be on the low side but I am not sure, rx7passion would know the approximate costs as hes in the middle of this exact swap.
In the end I dont think there really is a cheap way (under say $1500) to get reliable (relative to forced induction) forced induction cheaply...

well depending on what you really want to do with the car. you can honestly have a 13bt in your car for around 2k-2.5 with stock ecu and 12a tranny.
the reason i opted for the 13bt is like serzy said there are way more parts available for them. sure i could have gotten a 12at from corksport but who makes parts for them, what if something breaks? you'd have to have a hookup in australia or japan to try and find you parts.
and the supercharger $1800+ for 5lbs of boost that you cannot adjust, i thought about it for a little while but i like to be able to turn up or down the boost like if its raining. i can only imagine the fun in a fb with a supercharger in the rain..
the reason i geuss i am spending close to 4k for my car is cause i would like a semi bullet proof 300+hp car. that i can put around in town in, then when i want to race some camaro or something just turn a *** and wala no more camaro.
its a very good learning experience too, sure it has taken me quite a while to get things together bla bla bla but i document things clean them up and put them together and take them apart again so i know exactly what the hell it does etc etc..
ok ill shut up now.. any more questions

ok just my 2 cents on this... #1 i called mazdaracing.com and was told 5500$ for a webber side draft blow through sys. on ther web page it says about 2800. then the guy was telling me 300-400 hp, well thats a big area to play in i would think 50hp would be a better hp area not 100. ok#2 you can ajust the boost but not incab. you must replace the pully(pita). I was thinking about the boost in the rain/snow... i think that might be a eye opener. im really wanting to get more info on the atkins s.c, like does it still keep the stock o.m sys?, there www page doesnt say much other than it takes 10 hours
