I post at a coupe of other forums, but there is this guy that posted this about his car. My god, 5.45 sec on the quarter mile? Maybe in 10 feet, but he basically says his sunfire can beat anything on dry land.

my car is, 97 sunfire, lowered, 18 inch rims, scorpion spoiler, custom made engine, producing around 370hp, 360to the ground 420tq(used to have a stronger engine, but killed it because i had too many problems with it)

my car dosnt look much, i just made some outside "adjustments" for the performance of the car, when they roll up with their body kits in their bmw m3, i will gladly show them my lisance plate.

There's rotaries i've heard of running 6's. Rx7.com has plenty of cars in their club running 7s. I believe there's a sunfire running a 5.45 though.

 

18 inch rims + scorpion spoiler = 75hp alone.

 

at the strip with slicks or on the street how streetable can a high 5 second sunfire be? any mroe info on his car?

Exactly what I'm getting at, this guy is just full of holes.

 

"speed holes" in engine casing - increases oil flow (out of engine!), gaffer tape on exhaust (the silver colour alone adds 10Bhp!!) plastic straw bodge-fix on fuel line (christ - at least 20Bhp for that!!!)

So he has some super-efficient drivetrain as well - only 10Bhp loss!!! I'd also love to see 360Bhp make a 5.45 sec pass without HUGE tyres (which he doesn't list)

Yes.. there are J-bodies in the 5's.. however, they're Pro Stock cars and bear no relationship with a production Cav/Fire aside from sharing roughly the same body styling.. oh and 370 hp from a 4-cylinder is pretty damn easy with today's technology.. hell, BMW pulled over 1000hp from a 1.5 litre four-banger in their 80's F1 cars...

I know they have some big displacement 4 cyl engines running 6's, i'm not sure about 5's and if it is it's no where streetable at all. But anyways it's just a bunch of .

He wasn't saying his Sunfire ran a 5.45.

 

The 10.09 Rx-7 is all motor. There are much faster Rx-7's out there.

 

Was this Sunfire guy from Arizona? The sedona area perhaps?

My girlfriend and I were sitting in a Phoenix chatroom on AOL one day......under her screenname......and some guy "ShaneFromSedona" started trying to hit on her with his car BS. He mentioned he had like 4 cars......and one of them being a 97 Sunfire. He listed all sorts of stupid mods, saying that he had ridiculous HP, yet, still had some crazy bodykit. He listed just about everything on a single page out of a SuperStreet magazine......like HKS stuff for his Sunfire.

I think he said it was a 2.4 bored up to a 3.0........lol.

Anyways......sounds like the same guy.

 

ive seen a third gen tunned by peter ferrel run 9.6 @ 140+ in person. ive also seen video of ractive racing going 9.2 with no nitrous.

ive seen videos of first gens going 7's. they are out there.

ive also heard of the 5 second sunfire. he probably read about it on some site and tried to claim it as his own. people like that are starting to not get to me anymore...
